Gareth on The Bill - Review
ok this is my review of the episode.
Last night saw Gareth's second appearance in the Bill, as he has been in it years ago.
anyway the episode starts with the Bill being called to an apartment where a woman's (dawn from eastenders) bf has subdued an intruder in her home. The intruder has been badly beaten and restrained until they have arrived. The intruder is Gareth who was apparently drunk and doesnt remember entering the house let alone what he was doing there.
He's taken into custody while they try to come to terms with what has happened and to decide if charges should be brought against him. He has aparently been for a night out, drunk too much and gone to take a piss in an alley before climbing in through the window, to get some sleep. Well thats the story he has given.
He has also aparently stolen a ring that was left in the dish on the table which he admits to picking up and puttin in his pocket although admits it was a mistake. He just wants to put it all behind him as he says he's had a kicking and been punished for the incident by the Bf.
the police discover gareth's fingerprints on the window, above the woman's bed, in the bathroom and on the fridge and knives in her kitchen. so theres more there than meets the eye.
The story then goes on to reveal after Gareth's character has been released with a caution and told not to approach the woman again that he works in the same building as her and is a security officer. So while at work he leaves a chocolate muffin in her desk with a note saying he wants to put everything behind them.
He then gets beaten up again by the BF who hears about the muffin and flips out as he's apparently broken into the desk to leave it. Classic line here when being interrogated again "what woman doesnt like chocolate muffins" that really made me smile and as a personal side note he can stalk me anytime he likes if he's gonna leave me chocolate muffins in my desk.
It goes on then to have Gareth revealing that he's aparently been having an affair with the woman. that they went out to a bar, she invited him back and then they made love in the shower and then the bedroom before the bf came back and gave him the beating.
aparently the woman has a mole on her shoulders and has had a miscarrige and hasnt told the bf. lots of details about her life he can real off as if he's been told them in confindence.
The bill then discover that gareth is one of only two people with access to security footage at work and all the stuff from the womans's desk has been deleted before it should be. That also from the cameras you can read personal info from her computer and all the information is flagged up as to what he's told the police.
reviewing secuity footage from the bar on which the note with the muffin was left its revealed that the woman picked a guy up in the bar and that gareth's character was also there and spoke with the other man before she left with the stranger.
The crimescene police discover a second blood trace on gareth's clothes and on the flat that belonged to someone other than him. Its revealed then that the stranger the woman took home was attacked in the alley and hospitalised. later to be revealed by gareth as the man had gone back and had sex with the woman.
Gareth's character is taken back in for assualt and to also try and gain the truth from him as they now suspect he is lying and stalking the woman. in a cell on his own with the female officer, he is interviewed and she plays into his pyschosis, saying that he met the woman at the xmas party ect and how they met and such. all of which is made up and he then flips, when the fantasy world he has created comes crashing down around him. That he has been ignored by the woman and she's not interested in him.
He then goes on to admit that he wanted to make her pay for ignoring him and reveal that he wanted to kill her. But then he says he'd never hurt her. He then lunges at the female officer across the table, hands around her throat and then he is subdued and charged.
for me this showcases Gareth's talents as an actor, from the quiet moments of his fantasy where he is the womans lover to the intense scenes where he flips to psychopath. The subtle twitches of his facial expressions as he slowly looses it are brilliant and definately need to be showcased more.
Hell even my sister commented and she isnt a fan of his. She really loves the growly facial expression that he does when he's getting irritated by the officer before he looses it completely.
People really need to write more to his strengths because this shows that he can do the quite and also the intense. And as my sister put it he's more of an actor that torchwood showcased. He's more than just John Barrowmans BF. and coming from my sister thats an accolade in itself.
