Part 2

Ianto stumbled as he reappeared in a large antechamber, his eyes instantly scanning the huge marble arches as he tried to regain his composure from the time travel. His head swam and his stomach seemed to have taken up residence in his throat, but for now he was alive and it seemed that he was in no immediate danger. Hearing footsteps Ianto span round instantly regretting the sudden movement when his head swam.

“Mr Jones, we hoped that you would come. He’s been expecting you for a long time.”

“I came as soon as I could. Do you know what this is all about?” Ianto asked as he tried hard not to stare at the cat nun that stood in front of him, in what appeared to be ceremonial robes of some church he was not familiar with. But it was clear that she was from some Order.

“He will tell you when you see him. He told me to inform you that he has changed a lot since your time, but he’s still the same man you love.” She said as she turned away from Ianto and made to move towards the right hand corridor that he was only now seeing through the marble arches.

“Is it a big change?” Ianto asked as he began to follow her, his mind reeling from the time travel and also the knowledge that Jack may be different from the man he’s left behind.

“The transformation will speak for itself when you see him. He’s spoken about you at great length for many years. You mean a lot to him.”

“All good things I hope.” Ianto said blushing as he could only imagine what kinds of stories his lover would have shared with the people of this time. He couldn’t help but think that the nun was hiding something from him.

“Definitely good things, many a suitor have approached Boe over the years but he has only ever wanted you. As your invitation specified, the continuation of his species is dependent on you.” The cat nun said as she stopped in front of a large oak door. “He’s waiting for you Mr Jones.”

“He’s human though isn’t he?” Ianto said flushing brightly as he realised that Jack had apparently discussed his sexual intentions with this cat nun.

“Boe is one of a kind now, he’s the last of his kind.” She said evading Ianto’s question. “Now don’t keep him waiting, he’ll be anxious to see you.” She said as she pushed open the door indicating that Ianto should enter.

“Thank you.” Ianto whispered as he stepped into the room, hearing the door close behind him he turned to look into the dimly lit room, seeing wall sconces flickering with gentle flames. Oddly romantic given the circumstances of his being here. Biting his lower lip Ianto stepped forwards as he moved further into the room, as he could hear the steady breathing coming from further in the chamber.

“Ianto, I wasn’t sure that you’d come.” The familiar voice of his lover called as Ianto made slow progress into the room, his eyes scanning every inch of the room as he passed under another marble arch.

Jack sighed as he took in the sight of his lover, wearing the silver grey pinstripe three piece suit, and white shirt combination that he had so loved when he was still himself. He knew that Ianto would be shocked by his appearance but he hoped that he wouldn’t back out of his place in history. Well his future but they’d worry about that when it came to it.

“Jack where are you?” Ianto called as he turned to the right as he passed under the marble and his eyes caught sight of a large glass container. His body stopped as his eyes roamed the glass and took in the large face that filled most of the container. His heart pounding in his chest as they lingered on the eyes.

“You’re a sight for sore eyes. You still look gorgeous in that suit.” Jack said as he watched his lover’s reaction as he stared right at him as he spoke.

"You're a big head in a Jar!!" Ianto blurted out as he stared on in shock. He moved forwards, wincing slightly as he realised how harsh his comment must have sounded in the large room.

"Yeah, but even Big Head's need loving." Jack said laughing softly, while he gazed adoringly at his beautiful Welshman. “I’ve missed you Ianto.”

Ianto shivered as the familiar way his name rolled off Jack’s tongue washed over him. He moved closer still reaching out to touch the glass covering Jack’s face. “Is it really you?” Ianto asked all the while staring into the familiar eyes.

“What does your heart tell you Ianto?”

“Jack…” Ianto whispered as he fingered the glass, stroking it carefully. “What’s happened to you?”

“Evolution, over several billions of years. I don’t really know to be honest. Old age, but I still look good yeah?” he asked as he watched the way Ianto’s eyes roamed the glass, always returning to his.

“For a big head in a jar you’re breathtakingly beautiful.” Ianto said seriously.

“You still look incredibly hot in that suit; don’t ever let anyone tell you anything else. Although I know you look even better out of it.” Jack said suggestively, several of the large tentacles moving within in the confines of the jar, to stroke against the glass where Ianto’s hands rested.

"I can’t believe you brought me to the 2001st century just because you're horny." Ianto said incredulously, rolling his eyes as he could feel the heat rising in his cheeks once more as he remembered what the nun had said before he entered the room.

"Ianto, I'm a big head in a jar no one other than you would do. I know you love me unconditionally. Besides the need to reproduce outweighs the absurdity of the situation. I'd far rather my children have your looks than mine right now." Jack said giving Ianto the look that had always made him putty in the other mans hands. “Besides two arms and legs, versus a big head and tentacles what would you rather have?"

“I know what I’d rather have right now.” Ianto says looking at Jack and feeling himself blush more as he responded to Jack’s familiar look. “Think of the possibilities of multiple tentacles and a large head, big tongue…” Ianto drifted off mid musing as he realised that he was actually considering going through with the insane plan to help his former lover reproduce.

“Why Ianto Jones, I always knew you were kinky, I just never realised how kinky you were.”

“I have had a good teacher.” Ianto said matter of factly as he regarded the jar closely. “Do you have to stay confined inside this?” he asked while stroking his hand along the glass, along the line of Jack’s cheek.

“Why, you thinking of joining me?” he asked the suggestive tone filling the air between them.

“If you truly want me still. You’re note said that your species was dependent on me joining you here. I’ve had to lie to Jack, um to you to get here.”

“I’m sorry I had to ask you to do that. I never lied to get you here. My species is truly dependent on you helping me.”

“Why me Jack, I’m nothing special. I’m just a Welsh boy from the valleys.” Ianto said as he moved away slightly stuffing his hands into his pockets.

“Ianto, you’re more than just a Welsh boy from the valleys. You’re the most important person in my life. I know I don’t tell you enough and I probably never will truly say the words, but you mean the world to me. I’ve loved a lot of people in my life and even now billions of years on. It’s you Ianto Jones, my gorgeous beautiful boy in the suit who makes my life bearable. I may be a big old head in a jar, but I still dream of the stars. I still remember the night I made love to you atop the Millennium Centre while fireworks crashed overhead. I can still remember the look of wonder on your face as you came calling my name into the night while clutching my arms tightly enough to leave bruises.”

Ianto turned to look at Jack, tears shining wetly on his cheeks as he remembered the night Jack was talking about. It had been a year ago to the day for him at least and he still remembered it like it was yesterday. “I know you can’t tell me, but are you happy, happy after I’ve gone.”

“Yan, I move on I have to, but I never forget you. I never will.” Jack said as he looked at the insecure man from his past. “I’m as happy as I can be confined to a jar. I have my memories and I know that you’ll always be a part of them.”

“But Jack what kind of existence is that?” Ianto asked moving back to the jar and placing his hands against the glass atop of Jack’s cheeks.

“It’s the only one I have.”

“Then please let me help you make a new memory to last you another lifetime. Can we get anyone to help me get you out of this thing? I want to touch you.” Ianto said his voice catching in his throat as he caressed the cool glass.

“Don’t cry for me. If you find Hame she will assist in getting me out of here and then I can touch you. It’s been so long since I saw you.” Jack said as he closed his eyes briefly as the intense sadness Ianto was feeling washed over him. “Go and get yourself a drink and compose yourself while I relocate. Before you ask, yes we still drink coffee in the 2001st century but it hasn’t improved any. Your coffee is by far the best in all the known galaxies. I’ve missed that almost as much as I’ve missed you.”

Ianto couldn’t help the laughter that escaped at that comment, his eyes shining with unshed tears as he smiled softly. “Then you’re in luck Jack, I brought my special blend along with me.” He said as he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out the small foil packet that he’d stowed in there before he left the flat that morning, knowing that he’d used the last of the Hub’s supplies the night before.

“Could you perhaps work your coffee magic for an old soul, while I’m relocated to someplace more comfortable and more private?” Jack asked as he smiled brightly.

“It would be my pleasure.” Ianto said grinning as he couldn’t help but be affected by the infectious nature of Jack’s grin. “Where will you be?”

“I’ll send Hame to come and fetch you once I’m settled. The kitchen is through that door on the right. You should find everything you need in there, although no one has ever been able to work it like you did.”

“You kept the coffee machine all these years?” Ianto asked as he heard footsteps approaching outside the large oak door behind them.

“Of course. It was the only thing I had left of you, besides a few suits and a handful of photographs, but even those faded with time, although seeing you again today has brought a smile to this big old tired face.”

“Jack you’re going to make me cry.” Ianto whispered as he listened to the sadness tingeing his lover’s words.

“Making, not going to.” Jack said chuckling softly as he watched the tears tracking down Ianto’s pale cheeks.

Ianto reached up and brushed his tears away hastily as he heard the soft footfalls suddenly halt as the door pushed open.

“I’m sorry for the intrusion.” Hame said as she stepped into the room and saw Ianto turn away from her so she’d not see the tear tracks on his cheeks.

“It’s not an intrusion; would you help me relocate to healing pools?” Jack asked as he watched Ianto leave them alone.
