La Cage Aux Folles - Squee Review 19th September 2009

Sep 22, 2009 21:04

This is going to be very rambly at the best as I really dont remember a great deal of anything much.

there will be lots of pics from the stage door and of the outside of the theatre.

Myself and nightbeast went to see the show on saturday as a late birthday present to myself. so after a rather stressful hunt for hotel details on cardiff central's platform we made our way to london to check in and then to go see the show. stopping by the theatre between the matinee and the evening performance that we were going to see in order to pick up programs, and other merchandise.

I already had the I Am What I Am t-shirt and was wearing it for the occaision. But i did buy a poster of John as ZaZa in his red dress. I later bought a second one as i was lucky enough to get John to sign it at the stage door. Well Lisa handed it over in the crowd and he signed it for me which was really cool.

We then headed off for lunch at garfunkle's on the corner of the street before coming back for our show. We were sitting in Row A 12 & 13 so right on top of the stage beside the cabaret tables and to the left of the stairs.

highlights for me included John's array of dresses and costumes. He makes a spectacularly hot woman. Simon Burke who plays Georges was also fabulous and so nice when we met him after the performance.

The songs were brilliant and i have had some in my head since saturday night. The show was amazing. i've never laughed or cried so much during a performance of anything and that includes panto.

The chemistry between John (Albin/Zaza) & Simon (Georges) was amazing and the kiss at the end was spectacular. shame they were lowering the curtain at the time.

highlight outfits and i think i've remembered them all are

White fur coat, taken off to reveal a gorgeous anne summers style black & red babydoll with nipple tassles, garter, 4 inch stilletto's and a garter which john incidently split somehow during the performance. Long blond wig which started off being tied into a pony tail and then was let loose as john did a tease and flashed the audience his underwear. sadly couldnt see what he had under his skirt as the woman on the cabaret table in front's head was in my way lol.

long Pink lace dress with train and a very high split in the front, pretty much to crotch level.

Gold/Silver & Black striped long dress for I Am What I Am - which was a very moving and heartbreaking scene which sees John perform it in a way ive not heard him do before, because of the situation that Albin finds himself in. Tears his wig off and storms off stage down the steps and exits stage left, so right past me and almost but thankfully doesnt trip over my tote bag which had the poster inside as i couldnt get it under my seat along with my handbag.

A Jackie Kennedy style white cardigan and black shift dress with a short blond wig. Look very sexy in this one. i think he had white patent heels here.

The red Glitter dress from the promo's and this was revealed after he ripped off one of the cagelle style skirts.

White short dress with tassells all over which i believe he put on after doing his makeup on stage while singing and wearing a gorgeous and frankly one of the hottest things ive ever seen. White under bust corset, revealing his nipples and chest. And white frilly knickers, diamante ankl bracelet and white heels.

A baby/cornflower blue suit and sunglasses.

Black suit with sequins on the lapels and down the seams of the trousers. plus a black lacy umbrella and sunglasses.

grey pants, black/navy blazer, black thick rimmed glasses and looking so very hot and if a little uncomfortable as Albin is forced to hide who he really is.

Very moving song of "Look Over There" with John in the background. so sad and so enthralling.

a white floral dress with pink and green patterns on it with burgundy and white heels. I so want this dress. Bright pink wig here. lol not so much on the hair aspect but the dress was gorgeous.

then he ended the show in a simply stunning outfit of black pants and a white open collared shirt and the kiss was just to die for.

I gave john and the company the standing ovation i believe they deserved because it was simply the most entertaining show ive ever seen at the theatre. and ive seen various shows in the past and not all have been musicals.

we went back to the theatre on the sunday to leave a card for John as i needed to express some things that i lack the coherancy to say when around him and to thank him for his being him and making my birthday special.

i cannot wait to go again on October 15th from the cabaret tables

reviews, john barrowman, simon burke, la cage aux folles, friends
