Classically speaking...

A few weeks ago I reorganized my DVDs into my own personal filing system, giving 'classic' films (from the 70's or earlier) their own category. Since then I've been taking greater note of older films such as Orson Welles' Touch of Evil as well as those classic monster and UFO films of the 50's (the ones I didn't already own that is).

I've been most impressed with some of the Warner Brothers sets though. I have owned Errol Flynn's Adventures of Robin Hood for some time. It came it this wonderful 2 disc set with surprising extras considering the age of the film as well as classic Looney Tunes cartoons and some old short films. Warner Bros. even went so far as to put all of this together into recreating a typical night at the movie theater when this film was first run and many other films were shown before the feature presentation.

I was pleased to find out that Warner Brothers also used this approach in several of Humphrey Bogart's films that I've recently been interested in such as Casablanca, The Maltese Falcon (actually a 3 disc collection!) and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. Somehow it's nice to know that at least one studio in Hollywood values the movies that made the studio what it is today and hasn't forgotten its heritage when it comes to these older classics.
