HEY!! So in keeping with those " two or three times a year major updates", and since I've been NUDGED, here is what I finally wrote up for my facebook and myspace. My facebook is the most frequently updated, and during labor and such I posted a handful of pics and lots of updates. Just add geoff lehan if you want in on that! haha.
Merissa gave birth via c-section to Elijah James Lehan on Oct. 1, at 5:32pm cst, was 22 in. long, and weighed a freakin' 10 lbs. Many props to my sweetie for putting up with a munchkin that huge.
So I'm just sitting here watching Merissa write in the baby book, while Elijah chills sitting in his boppy watching mommy (he loves that thing!). Seemed like a good time to try and write up more than my phone blurbs!
Jumping back to last Wednesday, we were at the doctor all morning sitting through a neo-stress/movement test, then an ultrasound, then finally a doctor appointment with an internal and all that fun stuff that Merissa was stuck going through being 12 days past due. Dr. Krandall finally came in and saw us at the end, said she was clinically large, two weeks past meant she was full term, finally showing minor signs of preeclampsia, and worst of all was still not dilated at all. We already knew that if things weren't progressing, Merissa was getting induced on Saturday the 4th, with the possibility of considering a c-section, since the previous week's ultrasounds were already showing the baby was probably in the mid-nine pound range. Dr. Krandall asked us to hang on a minute while he checked to see if the baby could come out earlier, and popped back in and asked us if five o'clock sounded good. :) Merissa's mouth pretty much fell open. :) We talked for a couple minutes about why he felt we should have a Cesarean. Neither of us like c-sections unless they're medically necessary, and thankfully we've had a doctor that feels the same way and had a very low rate of performing them, so we felt more comfortable.
We got home around 12:30 and had to be to the hospital at 3pm to prep Merissa for surgery! Merissa was nervous, but did just dandy. I sat beside her and kept her talking to me because she wanted the distraction. Krandall said "Oh that's not that big a head!" - we had talked earlier about ultrasounds estimating mass but they weren't spot on, so after the fact a c-section might have been unnecessary, but then twenty seconds later he went "WHOAAA but that's a big body!! Yeah, I'm definitely happy with our decision now." A couple seconds later he said something about "he" and Merissa and I both smiled with an eyebrow raised and at the same time said "he huh?" :)
The next couple days were a blur of napping and family visits and lots of firsts like getting pooped, peed, and puked on. Actually I'm pretty sure I covered those three in the first 24 hours, since Mommy couldn't get out of bed yet. We finally got to leave on Sunday morning. Merissa and Elijah have both been ahead of their progress curves so far and are both doing incredibly well. No issues whatsoever.
So far we've also been blessed with a mellow, quiet little squirmy-wormy, just like mom and dad - and hopefully that continues! lol
