So now that it's been almost another month since my last update...
My clinical is moving along, research is actually moving along, and
fall is moving along. Everything is just flying by.
Thanksgiving came and went, and I think it was successful all
around. Wednesday night was JR's Mom's dinner, which was slightly
chaotic but still enjoyable. I finally got to meet his brother
who I liked very much, and I earned brownie points in his mom's eyes by
helping with dinner and the dishes. Thursday morning was JR's
dad's family breakfast, so I finally got to meet his dad. Didn't
spend much time there, so we'll have to get to know each other
later. Christmas, maybe. And then we drove across the state
through GR's shitty weather to my family's T-giving shindig, which was
also slightly chaotic yet enjoyable. The salad we made was a hit,
the rest of the food was good, and while some of the company was
juvenile (we got stuck at the kid's table by letting everyone else get
food first), the rest of it was fine. We hung out with my brother
and his wife a lot, and mingled with my aunts and uncles in the
kitchen, and my grandma scolded JR for not eating vegetables.
Part of the family already.
Friday was shopping with my mom, and we were actually pretty
successful. We went out at 8:30 and came back around 5:30 with
pizza. We got quite a few gifts for other people, and a couple
for ourselves. I ended up with an early Christmas gift of a new
wool dress coat, so that I could use it....
....for the surprise I knew I was getting the next day. JR had
told me to pack a dress and not to plan anything Saturday
afternoon. He didn't tell me more than that, and although I could
have asked and he would have told me, I decided to wait and be
surprised. I had figured it out, but it was still exciting to see
the "Moscow Ballet's Nutcracker" sign at the Masonic Temple
downtown! The show was good, we looked good, Olive Garden (on the
Muskegon Catholic Central band boosters) afterward was good...the day
was just good in general. Thanks, baby.
That morning we had gone to my grandparent's to pick out stained glass
so my grandpa can make JR's mom a lampshade for x-mas. The glass
should look nice, and I think it's a nice, unique, personal gift.
Sunday we hung out with both my brothers and their wives, had yummy pot
roast for dinner, and drove back to GR (with an excessively long
detour). Back home we ate leftover turkey and just generally
collapsed. But it was a fun weekend all the same. Now it's
back to work, and I've decided that I can't wait for this one to be
over. And I keep getting people asking me what I want to do when
I graduate, but I think I just need to get away from this rotation and
get some perspective before I decide. So don't ask me that yet.
