Lucy arrived more or less on time and waited at the door to be let in.
In the end she'd only spent about £1500 on the dress, but she was very pleased with it. It was a sleeveless, knee length, teal number that fit her like a glove, accentuating all of her best features. The neckline was low enough to show off her goods but high enough to be tasteful. The clutch bag and shoes were matching, of course, (a further £1200 between them), and her hair and make up were flawless to the point where she looked like she'd just stepped directly out of a glossy magazine already airbrushed. Looking good was the skill that helped her get by in life, so she'd made sure she was very good at it.
She had no idea what to expect from the evening's events - being on Jim's arm all night was going to be a tricky, dangerous affair, but at the same time she was rather excited by it. Life had been remarkably dull for years now, and she hadn't been to a party for far too long. There was something alarmingly thrilling to her about the element of danger involved, something that made her feel alive again.
