Going to work today was a big mistake. But I'm not going to dwell -- I'm just going to do meme's until it is time to go home, and I can go to bed.
Library Meme
Where is your nearest library? How long does it take you to get there?
It is about a 10 min drive away, or a 20 min - 30 min walk. I walk it sometimes in the summer, but usually bus / plead for a ride on the way home as books are heavy man,
How often do you use it?
Ahh. Once a week. Sometimes more .... I love books!
How old were you when you started visiting libraries?
Gosh. I don't know ... I know I didn't start to read like a crazy reading person who has to have books physically removed from he hands until I was in grade one. But I know I was visiting the library before that - the first book I read by myself was a library book that my mother had checked out for me. So since ... four-ish?
What's the first book you remember borrowing from the library?
Well there was the first book I read, which was about a monster and his baby sister ... and I know that came form the library. As for the first book I borrowed. Gosh. No idea. I know it's not the first book but in elementary I was obsessed with a book about a pack of hunting dogs and a were-Squirrel.
What's the last book(s) you borrowed from your library?
The geographer's library by Jon Fasman
Codex by Lev Grossman
The Hammer story : the authorised history of Hammer Films by Marcus Hearn
The magicians and Mrs. Quent by Beckett Galen
Wondrous strange by by Lesley Livingston
Boneshaker by Cherie Priest
The breach by Patrick Lee
Stormlord rising by Glenda Larke
Afterlight by Elle Jasper
Where's your favourite library? What's special about it?
The Halifax Spring Garden Road library - because memories! My parents would take me there when I was a kid and it was so big compared to the local library. And it was that library where I found this book about vampires, that gave me nightmares for years, it was that library I borrowed the first EU Star Wars books I ever read from, that library that I read my first comics in, once hid from my parents in.
So memories man, All about the memories.
What's the weirdest thing you've ever seen in a library?
Well it's not WEIRD, but the most unusual thing ... when I was thirteen I accidentally (and I do mean accidentally, I had a book in my hand and was reading it) walked into the men's bathroom. And I don't know how was more embarrassed the guy at the urinal or me :P. I went and hid in the women's bathroom after that and didn't come out until my sister came looking for me because I was mortified.
Do you like your librarians? Do you even know them?
Yes! They are a helpful and amazing bunch. And I don't just say that because my two best pals are (or were) librarians :D.
What's the most helpful thing you've found (out)in a library?
Hmmm. I ... don't know! So much info I've absorbed over the years. I guess when I was on my "oh my lord sharks" kick the books I checked out that broke down that Sharks weren't like Jaws, and going around killing people for fun (or whatever was up with Jaws) calmed me down. So umm ... all the movie logic that books refuted for me. That's been helpful!
Do you borrow before you buy, instead of buying, or randomly alongside purchased books?
I borrow and randomly (and not so randomly) buy. I have a list of authors whom I buy (Stephen King, Jim Butcher, Kelley Armstrong, Terry Prattchet, Neil Gaimain, Seann McGuire, Jim C Hines) without question. I also pick up random books from the book store as the mood strikes me / my budget allows. If I read something really good at the library I'll go out and purchase it, as I like to re-read and I like to have books I love available for easy re-reads.
