It's about 4am. I was able to get 2-3 hours of sleep but I know I need more. Sleeping in the car doesn't suck. I think it's just that I'm not used to it yet. I never sleep well the first couple nights I am in a new bed, whether it be a comfy bed at the Westin or the back of my car. We'll see how tomorrow night goes. Though I'd be lying if I didn't say I checked the pricing on a near by La Quinta ($50 bucks and they take dogs) but my funds are limited so I'll likely save my money for a night when I really need it. Monkey seems comfortable. She is curled up in a little ball.
About 20 minutes ago a white car pulled up next to me - well two spots over anyway. Considering I am in the far corner of a giant 3/4 empty parking lot, I was first annoyed. Basically this is the equivalent of the person who sits down next to you where there are a million other chairs. Then I got nervous because I didnt know who was driving it and was convinced they were going to come look in my car or knock on my window or whatever. Look, I don't know. It's 4am and I'm in a sleeping in a Walmart parking lot. You'd be nervous, too.
As it turns out, the owner of said car is a pretty blond woman in her 50's. She stuck a screen in her front windshield and grabbed her purse and toiletries and headed to the Walmart bathroom to clean up for the night. This whole Walmart
boondocking thing is a trip in itself. I use the store finder to locate the nearest one and then use
this to find out if they offer overnight parking or not. I mean, okay, so this is only my first night and my first Walmart and it's in colonel Williamburg. I am not saying I'd feel safe in the lot of Compton's local Walmart, but the one I am current in is a pretty good setup.
I am still up in the air with how I want to spend my day tomorrow. I am definitely going to explore colonel Williamsburg and that might take all day. Probably not interested in doing any guided tours because, as I re-discovered in Loray, I get ornery. There is an IHOP across the parking lot. Maybe I'll spend the day and evening in Williamsburg and then sit in the IHOP and do some work and then head out to North Carolina coast first thing in the AM.
A cop car just pulled into the lot and is driving around and checking things out. I really hope all the other ones are this safe. Okay. Off to try and get some more sleep.
