Today the school that I'm working at celebrated
Law Day. I'd never heard of such a thing before but apparently similar activities were happening all over the country. It seems
Law Day was originally established on May 1st to counter the communist celebrations of
May Day. Interesting.
Anyway, a lawyer, law student/intern, and judge from the Rhode Island
Superior Court came in to talk to the middle school about the legal system, juvenile rights, and other issues on a local and national level. They did a great job of it with hand outs, poster boards, and role playing.
Have any of you ever heard of Law Day before? Was it ever marked in your schools? I'm quite sure none of my schools ever did something different in either direction around
May 1st - did yours?
