There are a million crossroads you pass driving across the United States.

And after placing a stake down, she can't pass one without thinking about them.

This one is too close to the gas station. That one has too much through traffic even as two am. The one three back was lousy for cover. The one a state in front of her was where someone she knew a long time ago died. This one looked like no one had driven through it in years. That one could actually see the edge of it's tiny town.

She keeps driving, until it's passing three. She knows she's going to stop.
She knows why part of her keeps pushing her to keep going.

She shouldn't want to know. Especially now.
Her mom is alive. Dean saw her only weeks ago.

But her dad...

She picks one before she's exhausted the night or herself.
She isn't stupid, and she knows that's what makes this incredibly stupid.

She knows what to do because she's gotten to watch people stupid enough to do it.
People who came through the bar, stupid enough to agree, stupid to get their souls taken.
Stupid enough to leave everyone else to pick up the pieces their stupidity shat on everyone else.

She's educated to the point of near-pointlessness before she'd finally gotten out on her own.
But books and watching are only so comforting standing at a crossroad at four in the morning.

Jo hates the night and herself and the demon she's calling on.
Because the actions and words come as easy as they do.
