Nintendo: Marketing Genius?

I know I haven't posted in a very long time, but here's a doozy.  The following is not completely my words, but a theory that I both agree with and disagree with on certain points.

So I have a theory. As many of you know, I'm a part of Facebook. I also own a Nintendo Wii. In the year that the console has been out, I have been less than satisfied ( Read more... )

I think what it really comes down to is that Nintendo (or the big N, if you will) is really just based around the assumption that EVERYONE is a 6 year old asshole or pedophile...

PSN and XBL assume that people can opt out of the interaction with others - they also don't force you into this line of thought either. As such the environment is water muddied with the childishness of adolescents and people who's only vocabulary consists of the words "fuck" and "you".

Nintendo knows who their core market is and as such, has designed it based around one rule, "anonymity is number one". Think about it - you can't really tie someone to a specific code - each game gives you a different code id. There's little to no online chat. Nintendo wants to disconnect the player from other people so there's little to no chance of the type of player abusing another player verbally or otherwise that you might see on PSN or XBL...

I have seen posts and boards where people post their PSN and XBL names... just like their wii codes... the reason you see more wii codes though is that everytime a new game comes out - we go through the same damn thing all over again.

Marketing might be a side effect, but the reality is that XBL and PSN are opt-out systems, while Nintendo has created a sterile environment for multiplayer by taking the 'player' essentially out of multi'player'.

Then again... that's just my opinion... I could be wrong.
