Potter noooooooooooo!

So... Harry Potter 7, huh? I didn't really care about this series until my mom and brother started reading it as if it was the cure to some outrageous disease. So here's my opinion on the last book.

She should have killed potter. Keeping him alive is just asking for a spin off series. If she killed him, then she would have ended the series so much ( Read more... )

Interesting view, I actually guessed you might not like it cause Robin feels the same that she let the reader down.

Personally I didn't like the whole "Harry is a how ever you spell it" cause that i felt was just giving in to everyone who was screaming "It Makes sense" As a story of pure entertainment for children and Child like minds; which I really do have, it was great I was sad when many people died in the book. I would agree with the fact it seem like she was building up something really amazing and then went...you know what lets just give them what they want. I did feel it was a good ending to the whole story but it did kinda leave me asking for more.

I wouldn't go as far as saying it had no connection to the real world or meaning, since we do have a message of stepping up and facing ones problem rather then hide from it, I kind saw more of a message about growing up and how we do have to step up to a challenge when presented. That is what I personally feel that it was more of a coming of age story and the whole prophecy was more of a symbol of real life Growing, up, getting a job, things we know are going to be expected of us to do once we are done with school but do not know how it will happen. But then again as Prof. Freitus once told me I do to much work of the story instead of letting it do it for me lol.

Not trying to start a debate, I actually do agree with a lot of your points fully I just like experessing views to those who would care to listen

One thing do you agree with me that the Epilogue should not have been or at lest been something different? Cause that part of the book made me just go"...WHAT!?" yeah i was not happy with that.

You're probably right about the growing up thing. I hadn't thought of that. I suppose I wanted it to have a deeper meaning than that. Then again, I'm a stickler for disproving fate cause I like to make my own decisions and I like to see characters in books to the same.

At the same time, a coming of age story is supposed to teach you something about growing up, not just that you need to do it. I felt that Rowling could have followed through and taught the readers something about growing up besides that it's inevitable, but she didn't. Like you said, she just gave people what was expected and made a cop-out ending.

I HATE the epilogue. It was so pointless. It was like putting two periods at the end of a sentence and it really didn't serve any purpose to the main story as a whole.

I disagree that there was nothing taught about growing up. Sure, Harry CAME BACK after he died, but he didnt know that would happen. All he knew was that Dumbledore was apparently a HUGE dick and was setting him up to die for everyone else. That he actually did it is a message about sacrificing everything to save the ones you care about - he did it for Ron, Ginny, Hermione, that whole crew. But theres also a message about not taking on huge tasks like that without support - he couldnt have done it without his parents, sirius, and remus.

While I was disappointed by his return to life, it didnt bug me that he was a horcrux. If you look back, it's pretty evident that it was her plan the whole time. Just because people predicted it does not mean that she only did it for those people. And as far as the epilogue goes, I just felt that it was incomplete. She showed us some stuff that happened later in their lives. I would have changed some things, but it wasn't so much of an outrage for me.

Also, racism. There was a message about the evils of racism and genocide that she made no effort of hiding.

I'm very glad that she's planning on doing an encyclopedia that will include much of her notes that she didn't include in the books. It'll be good to have a spell list, a deeper look into their later lives (for example, she revealed that Harry and Ron revolutionize the Auror Department in an interview), and hey, maybe more about the only GOOD dark lord in the series, Grindelwald.

Voldemort was a punk bitch.

true, true. I agree that she definitely had a plan, I just wish that the plan wasn't so predictable. I also think that keeping him dead would have been a better idea. I suppose I'm just tired of cliche that riddled the series after book three and I wanted something wildly unexpected to happen.

I'm also looking forward to the encyclopedia because it gives the possibility for spin-offs and the like. And there's the amusement park that they're building as well and I'm totally stoked for that.

Silvestri, btdub, did you want Bioshock? Cause it rocks (9.7 on IGN) and I can get it to you if you pay me moneys.
