I am suspicious of this, actually. Comcast bought them, you know.
I think it comes down to network executives and dollar signs. They have zero integrity. It's really up to the performers to set the ethical standards, and Jay Leno has a long history of spineless backstabbing. He will throw anybody under the bus to come out on top and get what he wants.
I'd like to see if he can pull those high ratings back to the Tonight show, after making a huge ass of himself in public like this.
What I predict will happen: Conan is going to go to Fox or cable in the competing time slot, and be able to do to his Conan-thing full force like on Late Night. And maybe he will kick Leno's ass in the ratings while he's at it! I want to see Leno at the bottom of the ratings scores. Rub his face in it.
This just pisses me off because I really love Conan. He's genuinely, weirdly funny. His show was always so much fun to watch, I used to stay up late every night for it. I'm a Letterman fan too, but I think Conan is the funniest late night host of all of 'em. Plus he's a nice person. Letterman may be awesome, but he is definitely not the king of nice. It's really cruel and insulting that they would do this to him.
Leno failed. His stupid little comedy show sucked. Too bad, go home. That's how it works for everybody else. Why should he be exempt from the rules?
Heh. I get so invested in tv sometimes, it's scary. Especially because I haven't watched these shows in many years.
