William Ballow

Last semester, as part of my legacy building, I recruited William Ballow, the sophomore brother of my friend Robert, to take charge of the Tea Club next year. I've known him for a couple of years and he's a good kid. Knows a thing or two about tea, that's for sure. But until Tuesday I didn't realize how much. I often make tea at lunchtime--I have a kettle, teapot, and a couple of different teas in my locker--and I had just had a big meal and wanted a cup, but I didn't have the energy. I asked him to, if he wanted, make a pot. About ten minutes later there was a fire drill and I saw him on the front lawn, gingerly removing the basket with the leaves from the pot and shaking them out onto the grass. Rather than let the tea steep too long, he carried the pot (which, when full, is too heavy to carry comfortably with one hand) down the fire escape and onto the lawn. The tea was saved. I was quite impressed.
