Title: This is what they are.
Pairing: Hyukjae & Junsu
Rating: PG-13
Length: One-Shot
Summary: Hyukjae and Junsu, this is just what they are.

A/N: Its a bit choppy and not very well connected, I understand. I apologies. But half of my brain actually did intend it that way. If you understand - Hyuksu is just all that.
-

Hyukjae and Junsu are best friends, and everyone knows. It is the most obvious thing in the World, just like how Changmin is the tallest in Dong Bang Shin Ki, or how Heechul can single handedly stage a whole freaking drama.

Hyukjae and Junsu like to deny their friendship, never admit up to it, just like on that show, Jeolchin Notes - is that it? Hyukjae can't really remember. All he remembers is being called up during radio broadcast, but immediately flicking on a song despite Jungsu's protests, because, well because it was Junsu that was calling.

"What type of relationship do we have?"

"The normal kind."

Denial, in their case makes everything more obvious, but they both can't see that. Super Junior watches the show when it airs on television, they end up calling Hyukjae a liar for a month and a half. Because you're a bastard, is Heechul's offhanded reply when Hyukjae whines about it. Hyukjae however, thinks he is right - only for five seconds though. Because for that five seconds, Hyukjae thinks that he shouldn't have embarrassed Junsu on national TV. But then again, its alright - because they're special.

But what Hyukjae doesn't admit to himself, is that he really does resent not admitting straight away in the phone call. Because Hyukjae fucking misses Junsu, because Hyukjae is fucking proud of their close relationship. Because, because, because - Hyukjae isn't quite sure why either.

-

People have friends they have known the longest, and they too have best friends. One plus one makes two, but for Hyukjae, one plus one equals one. Because for Hyukjae, Junsu is his longest friend and best friend - all rolled into one package.

Hyukjae forgets lyrics, forgets dance steps even, forgets his notes when he goes for a recording, but Hyukjae remembers all the moments he and Junsu spent together. Donghae finds it amazing, Kibum just raises an eyebrow at it, and Yesung smirks.

Especially the time when Junsu broke the news that he was debuting, without Hyukjae. The two had always believed they would debut together. After all, they had always been together. Junsu and Junho were very close, yes. But everyone who knew them knew that Junho was only second in running to Hyukjae. Hyukjae remembers that night as the first time he had cried in ages. Hyukjae remembers that night as the first time him and Junsu had cried together. Hyukjae remembers that night as the single most happy, and yet brokenhearted night in his life. Junsu was going on to great things, but Hyukjae wouldn't be there.

"I'll always be your best friend."

It had been the only thing Hyukjae had spoken to Junsu that was not the least bit teasing admist snot and tears running down his face.

-

There had hardly been an moment in their lives where the two could not communicate with one another, well there had been one however. Just one that lasted around two months. It was something at work, something neither Hyukjae nor Junsu could finger. Something that was called: jealousy. Jealousy at fanservice, at 'Eunhae' and 'Yoosu'. They had finally broken the silence, well Jungsu had by shoving a phone with Junsu on the other end at a freshly woken up, completely cluesless Hyukjae.

( "What the fuck is this hyung, get that damm phone away from my head, I need to-."

"...Hyukjae?"

"Oh. Junsu."

"So uhm."

"Uhm."

Silence.

"How is Yoochun?"

"Fine. What about Donghae?"

"Fine also."

"I see..."

"Donghae and Kibum are dating." Hyukjae quickly utters out, and he can almost feel the happy glow of sunshine radiating across the phone from Junsu.

"Yoochun and this girl are sort of seeing each other."

There had never been another silence between the two ever again.)

-

Of course there were the times Hyukjae pined for Junsu, as Heechul so kindly put it to anyone who would listen. Hyukjae never bothered telling Heechul to shut up any longer, because it was kind of true. It had all started when Dong Bang Shin Ki had practically started to live in Japan. Them living in Japan meant Hyukjae had practically zero chance of seeing Junsu, no more running into each other for a hair-pull in the hallways of the broadcasting stations, or back at the company anymore. What made it worse, was that Junsu was the dumbest idiot ever, as Hyukjae thought, because the boy was never capable of remembering to charge his handphone, that meant Hyukjae never did get to call through, or his messages (the few he sent for fear of seemingly too desperate) replied.

Those days were spent with Hyukjae whining about almost everything at 2am in the morning, hence rousing the whole of Super Junior plus two, and setting flame to Heechul's 'I want to kill Lee Hyukjae' mantra, which then lead somehow lead to Siwon and Hankyung falling into bed with Heechul, which then set of Kibum and Donghae, followed by Jungsu and Youngwoon, which practically meant everyone would start to fuck, causing the whole apartment to smell like sex. Which ultimately made Hyukjae even unhappier. Because one, he had no one to fuck, and because, two : for whatever strange reason, it made him miss Junsu even more.

-

But finally, it was here : a day where Hyukjae and Junsu could properly be reunited after so bloody damm long.

"Your feet stink." was the greeting Junsu dished out after shoving past twelve others who were filing into the DBSK apartment.

"Your butt grew bigger." was the reply Hyukjae shot back, a large grin on his face. One minute in each other's company and they were already behaving like the silly happy blissful idiots they were.

Thw crowd of seventeen soon broke them apart because on could not expect to be along together when they were so many others around, but they were both still smiling. Because Hyukjae knew that somehow, they would make time to talk later. They always did.

-

Hyukjae was warm, warm on this especially cold Winter night, because tonight, he had Junsu curled up in bed with him. They weren't having sex - god no, they weren't even together. They were in fact, fully clothed and just lying in Hyukjae's bed, like five year children, their arms around one another, heads resting lightly on each other. They had stolen away from the gathering which had begun to consist of drunk singers trashing each other out on video games. Soon, as they both knew, a possible orgy could break out.

"Your room smells like your feet."

"You like the smell of my feet."

Were the only two sentences the two had exchanged before sliding under the covers without another word. One would think that after such a long abscence from each other the air between them would be thick with conversation. But no, because this is what they are content with, this is what they miss : just being with one another.

Hyukjae closes his eyes and allows himself to curl his arms tighter around Junsu, while he pushes his head in between the crook between Junsu's head and shoulder. Junsu doesn't speak, but his legs come to wind instinctively around Hyukjae, his hands hugging back. Junsu feels like he is hugging his long lost teddy bear, but then again - something more.

Hyukjae begins to hum a song - one love, and Junsu soon joins in. There are no words to the tune of their voices floating up in the air, but even wordless, it says everything.

This is what they miss, and this is just what they are.
