*wipes away the tears* *with my plastic hand*
This episode didn't particularly do much for me, until the end, at least. Kara annoyed the crap out of me (although the sunshiney shot of her in the field while Clark and Lana were talking was preeeeetty. Dammit, even when it's annoying, the show is pretty. CRUEL WORLD!). Lex/Lana still needs to go away, a lot. Clark and Lex are making me sad. My faaaavorite thing, well, besides the Chloe and Lex touching (oh Lex! You and your lack of personal space boundaries!) was Chloe and Lex in the courthouse, all swanked out in their business clothes. Hello, power couple! DUDE!
And... the end. THOSE FUCKERS EXPLODED CHLOE. No. NOONONONO. Man, i've been saying "please don't die, Chloe!" for so long, and there's all that damn ominous foreshadowing, and look what they go and do. It didn't particularly hit me until afterward, but still, it doesn't feel real, so i'm not all that broken up. I'm pretty confident that, even though, realistically, she shouldn't have survived something like that? Naaaah. Until i hear Allison Mack won't be back next season, i'm not buying it. On the other hand, i'm sure they can get rid of Gabe no problem, and that SUCKS. I LOVE Chloe and Gabe. That's just what she needs, really, an even suckier life. Thanks.
And they got rid of the Magnificent Bastard's HAIR! His beautiful, magnificent mane that he waves around in Lex's face all the time! Oh noooooo! That was the other most shocking part of the end, to tell you the truth. NOT THE HAIR! It was all really gorgeously done, though, with the music and the pretty slow-mo... very nice. And Lex is dying, yep, sure, you betcha. Really, come on now people, putting Lex in mortal peril for cliffhangers- not that tense. Gee, will he live?? I DON'T KNOW! The only thing i found the end sequence lacking was a shot of Lana's plane crashing. That would have been nice. But i'm content in the fact that she didn't warrant a place in it at ALL. Ha!
Chloe's not dead! Nope!
And... Angel. It still hasn't really registered with me that it's over, forever. All day today, and during the episode- it just doesn't FEEL over. Which, of course, makes sense, because it was cancelled prematurely, but... i don't know. It's really... surreal. No more Jossverse. None. That's way too depressing.
So, the great moments. Let's see. The Harmony and Angel conversation was fantastic, just the right amount of poignant, when she talked about remembering her heart beating- oh man, that was sad. The way they all spent their last day- Lorne singing, Gunn going back to his old stomping ground (yes, stomping ground), Spike reciting poetry in a seedy bar ("effulgent"!!! Cecily! Wiiiiiilliam!), Angel and CONNOR (!!!), and Wesley... oh, Wesley. I love that he summed up his life by... not summing it up. It was really heartbreaking, how little he had and how little he wanted.
I loveloveLOVE this version of Connor. Complete!Connor. I'm so glad he really did get his memories back (which had been obvious at the end of Origin, but so good to have it confirmed), and now he's partly normal, funny teenage Connor and partly fucked up, kickass demon spawn, which is a nice combination, i think. I really, really love him like this. And that he understands and accepts what Angel did now. Sigh. And, dude. "Have you ever written a resume?" "No, but i have very nice handwriting." "You're such a girl." I LOVE THIS CONNOR! I don't want him to go away.
Wesley's nod to Angel as they all left for the mission completely sealed for me that he was going to die (if his 'last day' scene hadn't already made it abundantly clear). It was almost like... it summed up everything between them, it had this sort of resolution and forgiveness, all in that little nod. After he got stabbed, i wasn't TOO too upset, because i had been expecting it, and then Illyria got there and it started getting sadder and sadder, and i was like "no! I was expecting this! WHY AM I SOBBING?" The dynamic between them was just... too perfect for words. "Would you like me to lie to you now?" Killed me dead. And even though it was fake!Fred, it was SO Illyria, too, and you can't really tell how much was either and it was... gah, amazing. That she STAYED looking like Fred after he was gone, didn't immediately switch back, and was still upset, i think that said a lot about the blurred lines between the two. It finally made Illyria truly human, and Wesley was still the one to teach her that, just like he'd been doing all along. And, dude, the change back to Illyria as she threw the punch was the COOLEST SHIT EVER.
The simultaneous attacks on everyone were really fucking neato. And LORNE. Shooting Lindsey and then bowing out... gah. I loved that. So sad. He never was a fighter, but he did his part and left it at that. And Angel fighting Hamilton, dude, when he bit him, ooooooh that was awesome. AWESOME. I'm sad that the Shanshu prophecy is no more, but i don't think Angel really needed it anyway. It would have been a nice prize, but he's not really doing this for prizes.
The way it ended... it was perfect. "Should we start with the 30,000 on the left?" Keep fighting, that's all it's ever been.
And then the WB had to do that goddamn "thank you" at the end, when i was already crying, and that led to sobbing, and it was just a big old mess. Dammit. And thank YOU, WB, for cancelling it. Jackasses.
And... that's it. The end. I'll miss those crazy demons and gods and higher powers. I can't believe it's over.
