Fringe
WHAT
EVEN
IS
GOING
ON
WHAT
WHAAAAAAAAAAT
I was generally finding the first half of this episode pretty uneventful and, like the last episode, a bunch of set-up, and then WHAT WAS THAT. IT'S THE FUTURE AND IT'S OUR UNIVERSE AND IT'S STILL GONE TO SHIT AND WHAT?????????????????????????
I THOUGHT I HAD A PRETTY GOOD GRASP ON WHERE THEY WERE GOING WITH THIS BUT I GUESS NOT
I suppose it's likely that this is simply Peter's consciousness transported to a POSSIBLE future if he destroys the other universe, or in fact his consciousness transported to yet another universe that is actually in existence (since every one of the universes is technically a branched-off "possibility") (IF THIS IS WHAT THE YELLOWVERSE IS: UNACCEPTABLE)
but
like
what.
I did LOVE the revelation of the Olivia prophecy (and i guessed it just as the box opened because oh you shitheads and your prophecies) and Olivia and Peter heading to their EPIC AS FUCK WORLD-SAVING TASKS hand-in-hand because askdfgsd Lyra and Will sdsfkjhsdfg you guuuuyyyssssss goddammit i don't even like Peter now but uggghghghghfhgjfghjfdkghkdfljgh and Olivia letting go of his hand first and Peter having all Olivia flashbacks as he gets in the machine and asdgsgfjsgdfjg fuck you for making me feel feelings.
Probably my favorite part of the episode though was the Walter and Olivia scene as she tried to make the typewriter work. It kind of dawned on me that i guess we never have many heartfelt Walter and Olivia scenes, but for once he was there to support her and relate to her in an almost parental way but also as an equal, which typically doesn't happen given their strained history and the fact that Walter tends to be the one who explicitly needs the most support from those around him. IT WAS JUST REALLY NICE. Aaaannnnndddd i love Olivia trying to use her superpowers. I often wish those superpowers were more overt and badass (like, you know... X-Men) but at the same time i really appreciate that the Cortexiphan powers have never, ever been a blessing or some sort of magic wand to do whatever the hell you want and make life easier wheeeeee. They're awful and borne of messing with things that shouldn't be messed with and they're a struggle to even use, let alone control, and all of that helps to add a sense of realism to what are technically friggin superpowers.
I AM SO WORRIED ABOUT THE OTHER UNIVERSE THOUGH, FFFFFFUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKK. I liked last week switching back and forth and having a fair amount of Altlivia asskicking and i was expecting this week to at least have Lincoln and Charlie busting her out and going rogue (!!!!!!!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE) but now... uh. What... is... the deal. I JUST WANT THE ALT FRINGE TEAM TO TEAM UP WITH OUR GUYS AND SAVE BOTH THE WORLDS AND FOR EVERYONE I LIKE TO SURVIVE, IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK?? ;_________; goddammit Lincoln and Altlivia didn't even kiss last week like i thought they were going to and i swear to god if he ends up sacrificing himself for Altlivia and dying in her arms as she tells him "i love you" i am going to murder someone in cold blood, no regrets. >:( >:( >:(
BUT SERIOUSLY
WHAT
I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN IN THIS SEASON FINALE
I DON'T UNDERSTAND IT AT ALL
Parks & Rec
OKAY SO LIKE
Ben STARING at a nude painting of Leslie uh... did things to me? I DON'T KNOW, tv UST is always so much more romantic than sexual but that was straight-up HE WANTS TO BONE HER and i found that, um................. stirring. ................I'M JUST SAYING. THEY HAVE SEXY FEELINGS FOR EACH OTHER. And seriously like EVERY SCENE between them Leslie was doing some hardcore bedroom eyes, which is a little weird because what the hell happened to awkward Leslie! I mean there's still some awkwardness but compared to Ben she is one smooth operator. And on top of all of THAT it's weird to have it so out in the open that they both like each other and they both KNOW they like each other and it's like... what, we're not dancing around this issue, it's just out there? Okay cool. :O
Anyway basically if they don't make out soon i'm going to die.
And lately due to shipping them so much and rewatching the end of s2 not that long ago i've really been missing the beginning when they hated each other because that was actually when i loved them the most. I mean i STILL love them the most but at the same time it was soooooo greeeeaaaaattttt when she annoyed him and he was her archnemesis who was secretly nice but still working against her. NEEDS MORE RIVALRY AGAIN
Also everything about this show is perfect, the end.
The Office
I haven't truly cared about this show in a long time, although i do still find it amusing (unlike 30 Rock, which is mostly just painful now). And i haven't really liked the lead-up to Michael's exit because it's felt so much like an obvious farewell to Steve Carell rather than Michael (the end of David Tennant's run on Doctor Who felt the same way, and i really hate that behind-the-scenes sentiment bleeding over to make everything feel inorganic and manipulative). That being said, i really enjoyed most of this episode and that Michael's goodbyes felt true to character, both good and bad. It was incredibly emotionally manipulative and sentimental but it also really worked on me. Dwight, Jim, and Pam were of course the most important ones and not incidentally those worked the best, although i also loved the scene with Erin because they've had a pretty delightful relationship.
Anyway i was choking back tears during Jim's goodbye, but the airport scene is where i really lost it. The lack of microphones just like the most resonant scene in the UK version, and it absolutely took me back to Michael attending Pam's art show and Pam following Michael to the Michael Scott Paper Company (I MISS THE MICHAEL SCOTT PAPER COMPANY SO MUCH). I also saw someone else bring up the ending of Lost in Translation, which i think is a really apt comparison because not only does it have the relief of getting a real goodbye when it seemed like there wouldn't be one, but also the emotional impact of it being a moment that, in dialogue, is kept private even from the audience.
Michael wanting to be notified when the documentary airs was a perfect touch, too. (also Jim's "you guys are filming people when they go to the bathroom now?" REMEMBER WHEN THIS SHOW WAS OSTENSIBLY A DOCUMENTARY?? aww.)
At this point i can't believe how long this show has been on, and if there's any indication that it should have been ended by now it's Steve Carell leaving... but i'm also sort of curious to see where they take it. AND I AM REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING CATHERINE TATE IN THE SEASON FINALE. :O
