we only got four minutes to save the world

I enjoyed it! Having just rewatched Casino Royale the night before, this one didn't really flow as well in terms of story, but then again a) ha ha what story! and b) it was basically Act 2 anyway. It's cooler to view it as though it's just one movie with a long intermission.

I love Daniel Craig's Bond more than i have ever loved any James Bond. Which is to say... i have never really loved James Bond. I've always enjoyed the movies in a fairly detached way until the last Brosnan ones got so atrocious i couldn't take it anymore (i never saw the Halle Berry one). And anyway i've never been a Bond loyalist, i've seen a large portion of the old movies and they're entertaining in their ridiculous cheesiness, but i SHOCKINGLY get pretty tired of all the nudge-nudge-wink-wink women are walking vaginas. Call me crazy, i know! But anyway, DANIEL CRAIG = AJFKJAAJKFQEGDYUIL A++++++++++ I like it when he kicks ass and wears suits and is dirty and bloody and also when he is not wearing clothes.

The opera sequence was SO RAD. And the dangling-from-ropes fight! And the climactic exploding building sequence! AWESOME THINGS ARE AWESOME.

I was both surprised and pleased that James did not sleep with Camille in the end, as i was dreading the typical "and then they have sex!" ending that characterizes Bond movies. I am still not used to this reboot actually doing things differently!

STRAWBERRY FIELDS: KITSCHY-ADORABLEST BOND GIRL NAME EVER??!

I was thinking about the "wah wah they turned James Bond into Jason Bourne!" criticisms i've seen, and while in this one especially the non-soundtracked fight in the hotel room was particularly Bourne-esque, i just... i don't know, i can't help but think, okay, the cheesy cocky smirking guy has been done FOREVER NOW, it's nice to have Bond as a believable assassin type for once (but still cocky and smirking!). And the way action movies have evolved too, as a culture i think we just find the grittiness and angstiness much more palatable these days, rather than intentional goofy cheesiness (look at how everyone reacted to Speed Racer! ...but then i guess on the other hand look at the success of Spider-Man.) Personally i always find it cool when formerly cartoony heroes are given the serious treatment; it's always so interesting to have those broad strokes shaded in. It doesn't necessarily make him NOT James Bond anymore.

As a final note, i was vaguely considering M/Bond this time around because older lady in charge of loose cannon younger dude is kind of awesome and I DON'T KNOW, liking Bond now i want to ship him with someone and THERE ISN'T ANY MONEYPENNY, I WANT MONEYPENNY, WHERE IS SHE. Ahem. I keep wishing these movies would give us Moneypenny. :(

And because for some reason i always end up here after a while, EMBARRASSING CROSSOVER FIC THOUGHTS: I just re-read Harriet the Spy (<3333333333 HARRIET x10000000000000000) so while watching this movie i started seriously thinking about grown-up Harriet as an actual spy and crossovers with Bond/Bourne/Alias/all of the above and it makes me so happy, i don't even know, SPIES. (and they have to save the world from Janie Gibbs blowing it up. and it ends with Harriet and Janie kissing. I HAVE SO MANY GOOD IDEAS YOU GUYSSSSSSSSSSSSSS)
