Sharing the joy

Oh how I am enjoying the book I'm Not the New Me, by Wendy McClure. She's so sharp and realistic and funny. Well, I mean, it's a memoir, so I should hope it's realistic, but I guess what I mean is, she's very down-to-earth. She calls people on it when they're full of crap or behaving badly, but she's honest about the ways that she's full of crap and sometimes behaves badly herself. Like I said, she's sharp.

The book is sort of mostly about her weight loss and body-image problems, but since she's so honest and has such a biting sense of humor, it's not exactly what you might think. It's about her life, which happens to include that rather significantly. I'm tired of trying to categorize this book. Go look at her blog http://poundy.com/ and see for yourself.

Plus, check out her new book of horrible, horrible Weight Watcher's recipes from the 1970s. Let's just say "Fluffy Mackerel Pudding" and leave it at that.

When I made notes about what I wanted to say, it came out almost like a haiku:

I'm not the new me
poundy.com
mackerel anyone?

PS--I now have the most intense hankering to read Foucault's Pendulum, by Umberto Eco, because of the discussion of vanity presses in the project I'm working on; there's a ridiculous one in that book.

ETA: I've been reading Poundy.com and the related Candyboots.com (site of the horrific Weight Watcher's recipe cards from the 1970s) over my break and cackling over them until my co-workers asked "What are you reading?!" And I couldn't answer coherently.
