JAM Project!

It's getting pretty late (I usually sleep at 11pm), so I'm not thinking that clearly.

Following a series of interesting discoveries, I decided to type a post dedicated to my current supergroup, JAM Project.

No, I'm not going to quote anything from Wikipedia this time.

A quick introduction: JAM Project is a supergroup formed by a group of well-known Anisons (singers specialising in anime songs) to counter the current trend of studios getting Jpop artists to sing theme songs for their anime. The line-up has been shuffled from the original, leaving the current line-up consisting of established Anisons Kageyama Hironobu (of Dragonball Z fame), Endoh Maasaki, Kitadani Hiroshi (singer of We Are! from One Piece), Okui Masami (Singer of Shuffle from Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters) and Fukuyama Yoshiki.

Their hot-blooded songs are what really sets them apart from most other Anisons or similar groups in the industry, with most of their songs classified as 'rock' or even 'heavy metal' (like what I'm listening to while I'm typing this entry). Of course, they have done more 'calming' songs, such as Little Wing and Salvage. But seriously, watch the live performances of SKILL and soon you'll find yourself singing along to 'Motto! Motto!' too... among other lines.

This year, they've released an album consisting of original songs, titled Maximizer for their 10th anniversary. Somehow, one of my favourite songs from this album is KI.ZU.NA ~10 Anniv. ver.~, which is basically a redone version of one of the songs from their first album, BEST Project ~JAM Project BEST COLLECTION~ of similar name (sans the 10 Anniv. ver. thing). It really reflects how far the group has come since its debut in 2000, where it started off as a slightly mismatched group of 4 successful Anisons to a group bonded by their passion for Anisong.

The group is most famously known for singing a scrapload of Super Robot Wars songs, which I would be a fool to embed every singe one of here. Go Google them yourself -.-

What surprised me was that they have also translated at least 2 of their songs into other languages! No Border and Hero have both been translated and sung in English, while Only One (a song they sang for the Shanghai World Expo) was sung in Chinese as well.

Note: Please ignore the strange images in the videos.

Despite being a supergroup of Anisons, they have also done collaborations with other Anisons, be it in concerts or recorded songs. One well-known example would be Animelo, an annual concert of Anisongs performed live. Seems it's a tradition to get the performers to sing a song together.

Here's another collaboration for a song covered for the World Food Program. The song is Imagine by John Lennon.

... Wait, what's this?

Okay, this is the only version of this song I will ever like.

If you're asking why I like JAM Project so much, I guess it all boils down to these reasons:
1) I like being unique. While others are raving over Kpop and the like, I take pride in liking something no one else does.
2) I just found that Anisongs are actually pretty rockin' good
3) Come on, they're so enthusiastic! Who wouldn't like them?

So *ahem* why am I typing this post out of nowhere? Well, JAM Project is coming to Singapore for the AFAX! And I already have my ticket XD
