As usual, I'm sneaking online while mum is out. I gotta do my homework, though...
I've been rather busy these few weeks and probably won't update as often. A lot has been happening, and right now I'm preparing for my school's Speech Day, where I'm supposed to play a duet on the piano. It's really stressful, considering many important people and even your friends will be there to listen... Can't afford to make any mistakes that day...
Apart from Speech Day, I've officially stepped down from my position in Guides. This only means that we'll be having afternoon lessons 5 days a week from now on, 'cos I'm taking the big 'O's this year. So far, the latest I've reached home is 8.30pm, when my teacher decided to extend our lesson so he could finish what he wanted to cover that day. We were chased out of the school, though. ><
For my international friends, allow me to explain a little about life in Singapore. As students in Anderson Secondary School, we start school at 7.30am. Since many of us don't live nearby the school, we have to wake up much earlier. School usually ends at about 2.30pm, with a 30 minute recess in between. Afterwards, we have about 30 minutes to 45 minutes to have lunch then we have extra lessons until 5.15pm. By the time we reach home, we'll be exhausted and would like nothing better than to sleep.
But wait! We still have homework and tests to study for! After dinner and doing homework, we'll normally just go directly to sleep. There's little to no time to rest.
Weekends are slightly more relaxed for me. I might have piano lessons on Saturday mornings or afternoons for 1 hour, then I would go out with my family for the evening. On Sundays, I have Maths tuition from 11am to 12.30pm. That's also the same day I watch Kamen Rider W (raw).
So what's the message I want to convey? Life in Singapore is stressful. After finishing your education, you'd need to find a job quickly and just work. The current retirement age is about 62 years old, but it's predicted to go up in the next few decades. As my Geography teacher said, 'We'll be working until we drop dead'. (Okay, that wasn't her exact phrase, but I'm refraining from using Singlish terms.)
Right. Time to get back to work.
