“I’m not wearing makeup,” Chad insisted.

Ryan crossed his arms. “Yes, you are.” He hadn’t spent half an hour with the Ben Nye catalog deciding between Brown Sugar and Hazelnut for nothing.

“Hey, I have gone way outside my comfort zone for this show, but I gotta draw the line somewhere,” Chad said stubbornly.

“Draw the line somewhere else.” Ryan could do stubborn, too. “This isn’t about your poor, fragile masculinity. It's about people in the back row being able to see your face."

Chad frowned. "My masculinity isn't fragile." He looked shocked and appalled at the very suggestion; if he'd had pearls, he would have clutched them. Ryan was sure Chad wouldn't appreciate that mental image.

Ryan cocked his head to the side, lips pursed assessingly. "If it's going to be destroyed by a little makeup?" he said doubtfully, "That sounds pretty fragile."

"What would you know about masculinity?" Chad probably didn't mean for it to come out so insultingly, but Ryan felt it as a blow, anyway.

He uncrossed his arms and planted his hands on his hips. "I am completely confident in my masculinity. I can wear pink and still know I'm a man. Put on makeup, dance around in a wig and heels, kiss every boy in this school - none of it would make me less of a man. If any of those things make you less of a man … Well, you can't blame the makeup or the heels or the pretty boys."

Chad blinked at him for a moment, and Ryan braced himself for some new attack. Instead, Chad said, "You haven't kissed every boy in the school."

"That's your comeback?" Ryan couldn't help grinning. "You could defend yourself here, but instead you're going to focus on the fact that I haven't kissed enough guys?"

Chad swallowed and looked down, fiddling with the little wedge of makeup sponge Ryan had left on the counter. "No, I just. I meant." He took a breath. "You haven't kissed me."

"You're so observant," Ryan said weakly. His face felt hot, and he resolutely did not look in the mirror to check how badly he was flushing. He titled his hips and tried for a little attitude. "I never would have noticed not kissing you if you hadn't pointed it out."

"You could. Kiss me," Chad said softly.

A distant part of Ryan's mind wanted to be annoyed at the presumption, but the rest of his brain was frozen completely still in perfect contrast to the way his body was moving forward. His hands came up to cup Chad's face tipping it toward him. Kissing Chad was warm and good, and Ryan's brain still hadn't started moving again when then parted.

"Kissed a pretty boy," Chad said in a dazed voice. "Still a man."

Ryan beamed and kissed him again. He thought Ryan was pretty! Then he paused and pulled back far enough to look Chad in the eyes.

"This doesn't get you out of wearing makeup."
