I just finished Pullman's "The Subtle Knife" of His Dark Materials and now I know that publishers are demons, I can't believe they ended it the way they did and I'm glad I don't have to wait 3-4 years for the Amber Spyglass to come out. I need to go out and get the next one but in the meantime, I'm going to start reading "The Tombs of Atuan". I ( Read more... )

yeah, the first two books are amazing. the third is where it gets really... murky. like, you sense some uncontrollable anger in the author coming out in his writings. o_O;; i did love the ending ending though. i really did. young adult literature needs to be more like this.

oh, and don't miss the homosexual angels. i missed that the first time around.

my fantasy professor (the best class i've ever taken) told me that the trilogy was a reworking of paradise lost. that's pretty sick.

i really liked how the books picked up immediately from where the last one ended. but at the same time, he could have easily made the entire thing a book, it didn't have to be a trilogy at all, it didn't add to the story in any way.

but i'll look out for the homosexual anges. pullman really hates christianity and god.

yeah i think he was raised in it or something and wants to bring down the institution through his dark materials. very interesting, it is. still, the 3rd is rather shaky. it's not solid like 1 and 2.

i bought the ugly versions of the book, i want to sell them and by the version with the gold emblems on them. and the third book looks to be signifantly longer too.

shrugs. i rather liked the covers of random aryan children with the technicolor spastic sparkles all over it. gave it a real 'too fantastic for you' feel to it. although not really liking this new trend of YA book covers having real people photoshopped on it.

well, except for a great and terrible beauty. HER BACK WAS HOT. and i might make an exception for animorphs, since the cutout animal was quite clever. i really need to finish that series.

yeah i don't like it when they used real people either, it kind of makes it look like smut.

anyways, i just got to the gay angels and it's wonderful, my heart rejoices for them. i sense danger for them though.

and animorphs was great but the last book in the series i read wasn't even about the kids, it was about the various aliens and what their lives were like before they met the kids.

ghey. did you read the specials (like of the prince alfafa or something and the horkbajir?) they were... amazing. they really were. better than the normal books.

aren't the angels adorable? yes, fear for them, but not too much. after all, pullman hates the Christian orthodox, remember?
