TM - Redemption
Redemption is a crock of shit. Like most things. Look, we are who we are. Just because you smile doesn't mean your thoughts aren't sinister, and just because you say nice things doesn't mean you mean them. We all have an agenda. I'm pretty convinced that an attempt at redemption is just another agenda. "Well, gee, maybe if I can turn over a new leaf I can get into so and so's pants." Yeah, okay. You do that. Hope it works out for ya.
Think about the word redemption. The word redeem. We redeem coupons. Special offers. We turn something in and get something better in return. But that isn't how life works. You don't get to turn in a rotten piece of yourself and exchange it for something better. This isn't five card draw, you can't exchange a couple cards and hope for a royal flush in return. It's not that easy. And it shouldn't be. We are who we are and if that isn't good enough for somebody, then that somebody isn't good for you.
I'm not a saint, and I sure as hell don't pretend to be. I'm really goddamn fond of my life now, but I'm not gonna run around spouting off some bullshit about redemption and second chances. I got lucky. That's it. Redemption's nothing but a damn illusion. Acceptance is key.
