Article on Oricon.co.jp

I think there is some confusion somewhere (though not on this comm) concerning this article over on Oricon. The article's word choice plus a simple translation of the title and the internet may have created some misconceptions.

As far as I am aware, TOKIO is not taking a break.

The article translates roughly as follows: ( TOKIO arriving at a time of fulfillment, get their first break in 12 years!? )

sorafune, single, translation

Didn't even know there was any hype about it. Isn't Oricon always kinda just the mainline of the music biz anyway (like we have Billboard here) that really focuses on numbers and the top dollar? For a group like TOKIO, it's understandable they'd only get the soptlight if they created more of a buzz than usual. To me, these kinds of mainstream mags just don't have their finger on the true wave of the industry, the fans, which is why I usually don't bother with them. I just go with that I like and hell yes, that means TOKIO!

er from what i know there are indeed fans who thought TOKIO is really having a break from showbiz & panic. ^^

haha. does that mean that you won't even be worried for just a little if you had words that TOKIO is quitting!?? ^^

Not from Oricon I wouldn't. Oricon articles are not time sensitive, they're mostly about general info (writers, composers, who's working on what, etc). If TOKIO was going to go "on a break", it would be noted at J-Web, on the wisdeshows, etc. long before it got in Oricon. Not even JE would use the (mostly) neutral pages of Oricon to report one of their groups taking a break. So, no, I really woulnd't take a second thought to it.

oh i see. i don't know japanese so even if JE were to post the news at their official website i wouldn't have known either. ^^

anyway i didn't really worried much. i only treat the article as a "speculation" kinda news. but still glad everything turns out fine. all thanks to luxvesperis for translating the article. ^^

Yeah, I don't care for Oricon at all. They snubbed Taichi in their Ashita wo Mezashite tour report and while it was a minor mistake that only fans would recognize, it shouldn't have been made. Stupid Oricon. And like you said, it's like Billboard. It's all about the numbers. TOKIO will keep going no matter what anyone says. (^_^)

agree. ^^ TOKIO heat will rise!!! hahhaa.

anyway seems like Oricon only sucks up to those artistes with good records!?? but even billboard doesn't only favour popular artistes in my opinion. bad Oricon. >.
