[Award] Taichi recieves the Mainichi Film Award for Best Actor for [Shaberedomo Shaberedomo]

I wrote about this earlier when it was announced that he had won. Yesterday was the awards ceremony and a lot of different sources quoted different bits of his acceptance speech. Here is a translated stitched up version that includes all of what he is quoted saying. The order of the individual bits may be completely wrong, some might even be the same comment. Japanese press has a lot of free range when it comes to 'quoting'. But you can get the general drift of it.

"I was really worried that this was all a big joke, but I'm starting to realize that it's real....

I was sitting in the middle but I was wondering what I would do if my name wasn't called. Or maybe it was this giant candid camera joke with Mr Suo (the director of [Sore demo boku wa yattenai] for which he recieved Best Director)...I was seriously thinking that until about yesterday.

I joined Johnny's and became a part of TOKIO and in TOKIO there are great actors like Nagase Tomoya and Matsuoka Masahiro. I surpassed them and got this award. When my manager first heard about it he said, "You're sure it's not Nagase?". He thought it was a miracle. I think it's a miracle. I thought it was a joke the whole time. I'm really surprised.

Being a member of TOKIO, I get to do a lot of different kinds of work, but I never thought I'd be recognized as an actor. I'd like to thank the director, Mr. Hirayama, and the entire staff. If I didn't have the fortune to be involved with this movie, I never would have recieved an award like this. I want to continue to work hard as an actor, so please send in those offers."

Nissan gave Taichi a Skyline Coupe as a congratulatory prize. "I think I'm going to drool," he said as he held a giant key, grinning.

Matsushige Yutaka also recieved the Best Supporting Actor award for his role in [Shaberedomo Shaberedomo].

PS: Daily Sports has a typo and says Taichi's 44 instead of 33. (^_^)

So go buy the DVD. It's fantastic. And has English subtitles. And the special edition has interviews and behind-the-scenes footage with a very chill, and slightly nervous Taichi. And it really is a good movie. Slow and sweet.
