I have a very cheeky and greedy request to make. There are two short TOKIO clips on youtube that I would be incredibly happy to have translations of.
1.
This clip of them on Music Station, plugging Honjitsu, Mijukumono - there's a lot of other stuff going on. The TOKIO part sort of starts at 3:39, but the talk part that i'd love to get a

Anyway, I was saying I forgot to respond to what you said in the original comment about not knowing anyone who has a negative image of TOKIO - that's really nice to hear. Although, yeah, I can't imagine anyone having a negative image of them, they seem so positive. Like, they really seem like genuinely good guys. They aren't just loveable, which is their job as idols, they're also likeable.
Also, I've watched concert footage and stuff, and the dancing that all the girls do is SO CREEPY! Oh my god! Haha, I'm glad no one does that at TOKIO concerts. XD I love Arashi, but I was thinking "Dude, I dont' know if I'd want to go to an Arashi concert. . . I'd be the only one who didn't know what to do!" I consider myself someone who throws herself pretty wholeheartedly into things (although not to the point of excess, I like to think, so maybe that's the difference) and I don't know the dances to any of the songs! Er, except for Sukiyanen, Osaka. XD Oh, and Seishun Amigo but nevermind that!
That's a good point about the boy-touching. I'm a big slasher, but I've never felt any interest in pairing off any of the members in TOKIO. You're right, their relationships just aren't like that. It's more like. . . manly comradeship or something. Their relationships are charming, but certainly non-sexual. In general they give a much more heterosexual vibe, I think. More of an aggressive, masculine sexuality, whereas I've got this whole thing about the boys in the younger groups having a more feminine sexuality. But it's a bit complicated.
Since you bring it up, what is DASH Village? Haha, I've seen it mentioned a couple places, like "We did that at DASH Village" or whatever, and I don't really get what it is - is it a place they created for the show, or is it a place that they just go to and visit for the show? Is it a commune or something? Actually, I only have a fuzzy idea of the premise of Tetsuwan DASH in general. . .
Anyway, you never need to apologize for long responses with me. XD I'm super long-winded and I always feel awkward when people give short responses to my long comments, so it makes me feel better when someone else gives a longer response. Well, a long and thoughtful response, so you're good!

I think it's just that TOKIO isn't popular enough to get the bashers. SMAP fans are hardcore and there is no doubt in their popularity, but sometimes they're too popular to be cool. TOKIO really are just good guys.
Arashi was possibly the creepiest when it came to the entire venue doing the exact same thing. Kanjani is possibly the scariest when it comes to the fan "LOOK AT ME!" factor. Just my personal opinion.
I agree, TOKIO are most definitely heterosexual. And when they do mess around with each other, it's obviously a joke and presented so. Like when Matsuoka came out on stage dressed like Marilyn Monroe to sing Taichi "Happy Birthday" and then grabbed his head and kissed him on the cheek. It gets screams from the fans in an "What the hell are you doing?! You freaks!" way but with utmost love. The show I went to, Taichi got manhandled by the members then Nagase planted a big wet kiss on Taichi's cheek. Guys being guys. Other groups, while slash is not my personal cup of tea, I can totally see where it comes from.
Tetsuwan DASH is a show that started out in late night with TOKIO doing all sorts of crazy experiments (racing trains, racing planes, eating hot udon in under 5 minutes after which the udon shop explodes(this one was great, they almost killed Taichi as the other members watched from a distance and laughed), placing a rubber ducky at the source of a river then following it down until it reaches the ocean, finding someone's house from just a picture taken from the second floor of their house, building a solar powered car from scratch, traveling as far as they can go in 3000 steps or 3000yen). It moved to prime time and became an hour show a while ago and one of the projects was to get the name "DASH" on official maps. A "village" had the least number of requirements, so they held an election for a mayor (ended up being the rubber ducky, whole nother story with that), bought some land, built the first building and started to grow stuff. After a while, it was no longer about getting "DASH" on the map, but about doing things the old fashioned way. Now they have a whole goat family, grow their own kind of rice, grow various fruits and vegetables, made a flag using cotton and natural dyes also grown in the village, made a kiln and a forge and now have made their own pottery and farm tools, have even made glass using sand in the village. And that's just a handful of what they've done. All of it is with the support of local people (the actual location is not available to the public) and professionals in the respective fields, but TOKIO do the main grunt work.
They still do the silly games, like Kick-the-can which is coming up, but I honestly love the DASH village the most. The guys have changed in a really good way since they started the village and of all the Johnny's groups, they're possibly the most in touch with traditional Japanese culture because of it. The show has a really high viewership. Everyone who watches TV in Japan knows it and the non-fangirls know it for DASH Village.

my mom is a big fan of dash village and remembers when leader bought the land years ago. ever since we started watching dash, me and my mom would always talk about how tokio is great for doing so many things out of their own field... such as all that work on dash village(considering what it started out being...jeez. there's so much now it's amazing), then leader with his crane license... those boys are awesome :D I saw them making somen the other day o_O; mendokusaaaaaaaaaaa but I have to respect them for doing something so tedious.
I'm very excited for kick the can coming up. tanoshimi~ ^w^

Not only their field, I teach an English conversation group at city hall. One of my students works in the agricultural department and she went to a conference a while back and knowing I love TOKIO, told me that the producer of the show, or just the DASH Village part, was there to talk about it. It's kinda looked upon as an experiment in some ways (I recently saw a newspaper article talking about whether or not using ducks instead of pesticides in rice paddies is effective and they sited DASH village). The guy said that the guys have worked really hard at the village, even without the cameras rolling, and they've changed over the years in a really positive way.
Late October is going to be the 300th episode and I read somewhere about it being a look back at past episodes. Whee! (^_^)
