He glanced up as the door opened, and chuckled at McCoy's comment; he'd already poured himself a glass while he was waiting for the doctor to show up, and now that McCoy was here, he poured out another glass and slid it over his way as the doctor sat down. "What've you got, then?" He beckoned for McCoy to hand the PADD over, hoping there'd be something in the files that would give them some kind of hint to.... well. Anything, really.

Bones uploaded the data to the viewing monitor at the table. "I haven't really looked at much, but I promise you I probably won't understand half this shit in that chicken scratch they call a language."

He took the glass and inspected the whiskey. "Is this the bourbon or the rye?" It didn't matter to him, although secretly he was a bit more partial to the bourbon, and took a sip as Scotty replied with his answer. "Not bad..."

He was only half paying attention to McCoy's question; he'd leaned in the moment the data came up on the monitor, trying to remember what little Klingon he'd been made to learn in the Academy, which admittedly wasn't much. "What is this... Er... If that's.... no..." He was talking to himself as he navigated through the data, his brow creased in concentration. "Fuck if I can remember any o' this."

"Go back to the last slide... wait, not that one the one before... yeah." Bones navigated Scotty and took another sip, feeling the liquid burn the back of his throat as it went down.

When Scotty stopped it was blue print of some part of the ship. "That's some engineering stuff, isn't it?" He didn't know, but at least it was a picture, right?

"Aye, that's some engineerin' stuff," he snorted, picking his glass up to take a drink. "Right." He set his glass down, laced his fingers together, and cracked his knuckles before settling in to take a good long look at the blueprints. Even if he didn't understand Klingon, he understood basic ship design.

"Right... What're we supposed tae be doin' with all this, again?"

"I thought maybe if we try and look some of these files over, since they haven't really been sorted, and see if we can find some stuff out for Jim while he's busy dealing with the diplomacy part of all this."

The file wasn't only blue prints and some databases of the ship, but of some history of Klingon activity from the past few years. "I don't know, maybe a correlation of activities or something." Bones leaned back in the chair while watching Scotty squint at the small text.

He frowned, leaning in a little closer. "So what you're saying - an' feel free tae correct me if I'm wrong - is that you an' me are sittin' and sortin' through Klingon reports that we can't decipher, because it's goin' tae... help us figure out what they're doin' now?" He shook his head and straightened, wincing as his back protested having been hunched over.

"I can tell you what they're doin'. Anyone with half a brain could tell you what they're doin'. They were orbitin' a primitive planet with high levels o' dilithium deposits. It's not rocket science."

Bones returned a deadpan look to the engineer. "I know that, just Jim is convinced there's something in all of this," he waves his hand at the screen, "that Starfleet is missing."

He polished the glass off and poured himself another, "You know him, how he gets these ideas in his head and is convinced of somethings underneath the 'obvious'..."

Scotty shook his head and tossed back the rest of his drink, holding his glass out for McCoy to refill. "Right. Something underneath the obvious. Maybe they're..... oh, I don't know... goin' tae open a dilithium trade with other primitive planets an' raise up a fleet of anti-Federation primitives - in Federation territory, no less. An' I'm Mary, Queen o' Scots."

He grinned and raised his glass to that. "That... actually makes sense." He took a gulp."To clarify: the anti-Federation part, not the Queen of Scots declaration."

He leaned in on his forearm and tapped the screen to search for a document. "What's the last complaint or activity the Klingons have been noted about? What planets, colonies, whatever have they been contacting. Maybe we should start a list?"

"Makes sense?" He glanced at his glass, and then at McCoy's, and then at the bottle of whiskey. "Alright, I'll grant you that anti-Federation activities, that makes sense, but in Federation territory? I mean, alright, we're sort o' out in the middle o' nowhere, an' I'll grant you it's a long way off tae proper civilization, but in Federation territory?"

He shook his head, and dug in the arm of the couch to find his PADD, which he'd brought with him and promptly forgotten about in light of alcohol. "Ah, let's see... Klingons.... Federation reports concernin' Klingons.... No... no.... no... Ah. Here we go. Last known activity... Looks like they were skulkin' around near the Neutral Zone."

Nearly choking on his drink in excitement, Bones pointed at the PADD, "See there! And what were they doing? I highly doubt it was just a casual visit. They know better not to hang so close to the Federation territory." Bones had a feeling they were playing games with Starfleet now. He could feel it just as he felt his body starting to warm up from the alcohol.

"Those warped faces don' care where they are. They're probably trying to set up alliances under the table to track us." With a defiant nodd, he sat back in his chair, arms crossed her his chest with a triumphant posture.

"Ooooooor...." He frowned, and went through files on his PADD again. "All that trouble with that Romulan ship. You remember? The Klingons lost a lot o' ships...." He chewed on his lip for a moment, tapping his fingers against the tabletop. "You need dilithium tae power a warp core."

"Right... Right, but maybe they're trading with other nations to build back up their fleet."

His glass was only half full, so he leaned over to fill it up. "Therefore, more crystals are needed for more ships? What crap do you think they're planning?"

"Bit suspicious, innit? We don't hear much outta 'em for 'bout a year, nothin' more'n your typical Klingon mischief, an' now they're sneakin' intae Federation territory an' takin' our dilithium? Er. Well. You know what I meant. Dilithium from planets in our space." He gestured vaguely, before taking another long drink. "I can see buildin' their fleet back up, so they need dilithium, but why steal it from us? Klingons're tricky bastards, but that doesn't seem like somethin' they'd do, y'know?"

"Why steal from us?" Bones leaned back in his chair, knees resting against the table top and he tipped backwards. "That's obvious! To piss us off! They're plannin' somethin'!"

He took a drink and nearly shivered at the burn. "They're being subtle, but not really... Just enough for us to notice and get paranoid."
