Who: Montgomery Scott, Open
Where: Engineering
What: Scotty and his crew must find a way to combat the effects of the anomaly and restore full power to the engines... but how?
Sleepless nights were nothing new to Scotty. When Liz had been working on her rearranged schedule, he'd been unable to sleep much without her there next to him; when she'd gone back to her usual schedule, he'd thought things would go back to normal. He'd hoped things would go back to normal. But normal seemed to be the one thing that the Enterprise and her crew had never quite got the hang of. The morning after the ship had passed through some anomaly in space (which he hadn't even heard about until later that afternoon), he'd woken up from what felt like the first real night of sleep he'd had in ages. Liz hadn't. And nothing he'd tried had proved effective in waking her, and finally, in a panic and terrified for his wife's life, he'd carried her to Medical, only to find that the same coma-like sleep had struck more than just Liz.
They'd chased him out of Medical after assuring him several times over that they'd let him know the minute they knew anything, and as much as he wanted to sit by Liz's bedside until she woke up - she would wake up, he refused to believe otherwise - he couldn't abandon his post as Chief Engineer. The anomaly had done something to the ship's instrumentation, and when he finally made his way down to engineering, it was more or less nothing short of total chaos. Nothing gave a proper reading, every calibration was off, and there was no baseline in the readings to work from.
He was certain that engine power was down, and fairly certain that the ship was still losing power, but there was no way to trace it to the source, and without a source, no way to fix it. The best he could hope for was to fix things as he found them, by instinct or by pure dumb luck, and it didn't help that he was once again losing sleep. He didn't go back to his quarters anymore except to shower, and if he had to sleep, he slept in his office. He checked in on Liz in Medical every day, but it was always the same. No change yet.
Currently, he was wandering the engine room, searching once again for the cause of the problems with the engine, trying to keep himself from thinking about Liz, but with every other step he took, he twisted the ring on his finger, as if not thinking about her would somehow result in her never waking up.
