Swinging her feet in the water, she turned to give Tom a small look of surprise, her heart warming at the nickname Tom had given her. She couldn't remember the last time someone had given her a nickname, and she hadn't wanted to smack them over the head for calling her something ridiculous. Her smile grew at the kiss to her cheek, unconsciously moving herself closer to him as he sat down.

'I'm fine. Been a bit cooped up here with nothing to do, so I figured fishing would be something fun to do.' Lifting up one of the poles she handed it to him, grinning down at the hat in his hand before sliding the bucket of bait in between him. 'Think you can remember how to bait a hook?' Her grin widened as she set about baiting her own pole, sliding her feet through the water the whole time as she watched him from the corner of her eye. She knew they had things they needed to talk about, but for now she just wanted to enjoy the sun and the water all around them. She rarely got a chance to relax very often, and this time...she had Tom with her as well.

Martha grinned crookedly from the corner of her eye as she watched Tom place his hat on his head. When she'd told him to bring one, she hadn't expected him to actually do it, but he was always full of surprises it seemed. Casting her hook into the water she lent closer to Tom as he rubbed her back, feeling happier then she could remember being in a long time.

Laughing softly she raised an eyebrow over at him, wondering why she hadn't seen him on her morning and evening runs. 'I have to say running where there's actual scenery is a significant improvement over the holodecks. I felt like I'd have to plaster up some pictures on a few walls, just to know where I was going half the time.' She watched her line slice through the water, not all that interested in catching anything, rather just spend a few calm moments with Tom by themselves. It felt like they hadn't had a moment to themselves in weeks, too busy running around trying to catch up on patrols and helping people. She didn't even want to think about all of the men they'd lost in that last attack...and all of the calls and letters she and Tom had had to make... No, she was here with Tom, and that's all that mattered, she could finally admit that to herself, admitting it to Tom, was an entirely different thing, it seemed. 'You check out any of the new repairs yet?'

'Yeah...' Leaning back on the hand that didn't hold the pole she grinned softly over at Tom, laughing slightly at his yawn. She wondered what he'd been doing on his time off to warrant him being tired so early in the morning. Martha had found she hadn't been able to sleep much during their time off, spending almost every moment she could outside doing something, whether it be a run, or working out in one of the gyms. She'd always found that physical activities kept her mind off of things that worried her, and there'd been plenty of that over the past few weeks to last her a lifetime.

Turning her eyes back to the water she slowly brought in her line, checking to see if her bait was still there before casting it back out. 'Fun? Well, there was this particularly nice stretch of land on the other side that I found to run on. And they have a particularly good gym here, which has been a bit fun...'

Letting out a soft laugh she grinned over at Tom, nudging his shoulder with her own. 'It has seemed like you've been getting a bit of a large head on your shoulders. Remind me to help you deflate it later on when I leave you gasping on the mat after I've kicked your ass around a bit.' Eyes twinkling in the slowly rising sun she stretched her arms over her head, breathing in the salty air. She'd remembered going fishing with her Grandfather, on those few rare mornings where he'd be able to get out of bed enough to take her out to the lake, but they'd always been some of her favorite memories.

Shaking her head she returned her attention to the pole in front of her, not too bothered by the fact that she hadn't gotten a bite yet. It was still early, and she had a lot of bait left in her bucket. One of the things she missed living in space were the sunrises, so wide and beautiful they left you short of breath in the morning scape. She inwardly hoped that this would be one of those mornings, something she'd be able to carry back with her on the newly refurnished Enterprise to keep her warm until the next time they would get a chance for leave. Keeping her voice low, eyes trained to the small sliver of orange tinting the water in front of her she let Tom in on one of her secrets, that no one but her Grandfather ever knew about, 'I love sunrises...'

She couldn't stop the shiver that ran down her spine at the kiss, looking over at him with surprise in her eyes as she reached up to touch the spot on her neck. She was even more surprised to know that she felt the same, missing the random meetings they'd have in between patrols, and in the gym. It'd been so long since she'd spent actual time with someone outside work, she wasn't sure how to act most of the time.

Taking in a deep breath she slid closer to him, pressing herself up against his side, and giving him a small smile. 'Sounds good...' Resting her head against his shoulder she turned to watch the sunrise, feet idly sliding back and forth through the water. She couldn't ever remember feeling this content with anyone, which probably prompted her to say in a soft voice, 'I love you...'

Ignoring the tension she felt crawling up her spine the longer he remained silent, she couldn't stop the small sigh of relief she felt when he returned the sentiment. Twining their fingers together she rested them against her thigh, suddenly thankful that no one else was around. She wasn't used to being this open with someone else, and if anyone were to see her like this she probably wouldn't be able to live down the embarrassment.

Grinning slightly where she rested her head against his shoulder, she nudged him in the side. 'Your line's coming in.' She wasn't one to dwell on things too emotional, and figured she might as well get back to enjoying the morning with Tom beside her.

Martha hummed softly under her breath as she watched Tom silently from the corner of her eye, a wicked grin curling about the edge of her lips. She waited silently for his attention to be focused solely on casting his line out before she moved quickly and pushed Tom into the water. Letting out a loud laugh, she held her hand over her mouth, trying to stifle her mirth at seeing Tom look almost like a drowned cat.

Grinning down at him she left her pole at her side, a smug look on her face. 'Perhaps you should focus better. Isn't good that a security officer is so easily knocked over.' Winking she kicked her feet back and forth in the water, not even considering the fact that he might retaliate.

Her victory was short lived before Tom grabbed her by her arm and leg, pulling her under the water with him. Coming up spluttering she pushed her wet hair out of her face with a glower, raising an eyebrow at Tom. 'Is that so? Well perhaps you should know that I grew up on the coast.'

With that Martha disappeared under the water and grabbed hold of one of Tom's legs, pulling hard enough to pull him underwater before swimming away. After a few arm lengths away she came up for air, letting out a bright laugh as she did. It felt nice to be able to really let go for once, and it still amazed her that Tom was the one able to break her out of her shell. 'What was that about good security officers not being able to be knocked over easily?'
