Even though she loved company, Gaila had found herself wanting nothing more than to go for a nice, quiet swim all by herself at one of the beaches a little further away from the resort she was staying at. Constantly surrounded by the hustle and bustle of Humans wanting to do something could wear on a girl! So she brought everything she'd need - a towel, some water and sandals - and found a nice, quiet beach with a few Risans bopping back and forth and some tourists relaxing in the nice, quiet atmosphere. What a nice place.

Setting up her little station, she spent a little while sunbathing before deciding the waves looked too inviting to withstand, and a good hour was devoted to swimming in the clear, blue water of native Risa. It was so beautiful, so clear, untouched by pollution or massive crowds of people, and when she went deep enough, she could see the aquatic wildlife swimming around in little schools, or chilling on the ocean floor. So fascinating!

Finally finding her way back to her little station, she toweled herself off and put on her sundress, smoothing it out over her chest while waiting for her bikini to dry. The soft fabric flapping around her legs in the wind was nice. Looking over the expanse of the beach with a smile, her eyes immediately caught a peculiar sight. Familiar, but odd. Was that who she thought it was?

"Keenser? Hey!" she chirped as she walked over to the short Engineering officer, looking... stunning in his little attire. She kept her amusement to herself for now as ehe approached him. What was he wearing? Hadn't she seen that in old Earth comedy films? "Fancy seeing you here! What're you doing on a nice day like this?" She hadn't talked much to Keenser during her stay on the Enterprise, and getting to know new people was always one of her favourite activities.

He'd almost made it to the rocks, when he was stopped by a familiar face he'd seen wandering around the ship. Stopping in his tracks, his feet started to sink into the sand around the strange shoes Scotty had given him with holes in the sides. He didn't understand why you'd want to wear shoes that allowed the sand to get in, but it seemed to be the norm, and he didn't want to see too out of place by wearing his work boots onto the beach.

Nodding towards Gaila, wondering what exactly she wanted before turning to gesture towards the cliffs nearby. 'Climb.' He hadn't really found anything else to interest him on this planet, but it was nice to be out under the sun after so long being on Delta Vega and the Enterprise. Fidgeting slightly he stuffed his hands into the short's pockets he wore, looking up at her with a curious gaze. He wasn't the most social person, and didn't understand why they'd go up to someone they didn't really know and talk with them. Maybe she'd like a joke...Marla liked jokes...

Gaila smiled down at him, wanting so badly to just reach down and pet him, but she didn't want to be disrespectful. He was just so precious in his little shirt, his straw hat and those itty bitty sandals. In his uniform, he was as respectable an officer as she or anyone else was, but in this... Well...

She looked towards the cliffs as he pointed towards them, and made a curious sound as he said he wanted to go climbing. "You wanna go climb the cliffs? Mind if I join you?" she asked, curious to maybe get to know Keenser while on shore leave. He was a fantastic officer, and looked like a lot of fun - despite his strained vocabulary. Communication wasn't much of a problem as long as you set out to try!

If Keenser could express emotions like everyone else his eyebrows would be disappearing into his nonexistent hair. When he'd come out here he hadn't expected anyone else to want to go climbing with him. He only ever rarely got Scotty to join him in the holodeck, and that was only after a few rounds of bribing or blackmail. Glancing over her clothes he frowned, thinking that she might end up hurting herself on the rocks. 'Other clothes?'

He wasn't going to pass up the chance to go climbing with someone else, even if he hadn't expected it to happen. Maybe if she liked it Keenser could ask her to join in whenever he went on the holodeck. He was running out of things to entice Scotty to join him climbing, but sandwiches always seemed to work.

Gaila couldn't help but giggle as Keenser remarked on her unfitting clothing for climbing cliffs. Was he one to talk~? "Well, I didn't bring anything else, but I'm sure I'll be fine. I'm a tough girl, you know?" she joked as she walked with him closer to the cliffs, taking in the naturally shaped rock of the beautiful Risa, kind of understanding why Keenser would want to climb them. Not something she would've chosen to spend her free time doing, but good company could make anything a good time!

"Do you climb a lot, Keenser?" she asked as they approached the cliffs, noting how tall they were. The view must be amazing from up there.

Keenser walked along beside her silently, shrugging at her decision not to change clothes. Glancing over the rocks he figured they didn't seem to be too sharp or steep, so she should be fine, just as long as she wasn't willing to get a little dirty. Reaching the cliffs, he ran a hand along the rocks, testing to find the best, and safest, route up to the top. He felt a small thrill go through his body at the thought of being able to climb underneath an actual sun, a small grin covering his features as he glanced over at Gaila's question.

'When can. Not often enough.' Turning back to the rocks he started up the climb, motioning for Gaila to follow him. Hopefully she'd follow his exact movements, knowing that he would be able to find the safest route, with no chance of them falling. Racking his brain for something to talk about, his social skills incredibly lacking he muttered lowly as he moved, 'Climb too?'

Gaila watched as the little guy started climbing, seeing the smile on his face as he made his way up the rocky cliff, headed for the top. He looked right at home, like this was his true element. Such a fascinating little guy. She was very curious about his species and home planet, so maybe she could ask him some things while they were climbing.

"I'm coming," she said cheerfully as she grabbed onto the rock, thankful she had put on her sandals as she started climbing where Keenser had started, trusting his decisions much more than she trusted her own, not being much of a climber. "Not really, I've only climbed... maybe once or twice, when I came to Earth. Lots of beautiful mountains to explore during summer vacation," she answered as she firmly gripped the defined rock to make her way up, treading carefully to make sure she didn't slip. "Did you climb a lot where you came from? Your people, I mean?" she asked, genuinely curious. Did he originate from a mountain people? How did his planet look like? Was he from a tribe, from a city, from the wilderness? So many questions!

He took his time, knowing that she wouldn't be able to keep up with him if he allowed himself to move too quickly up the cliff face. Adjusting his grips to ones that would be easier for the other woman to use, he glanced back occasionally to check her progress, pleasantly surprised at how well she seemed to be able to move up the rocks. He listened to her talk, quietly, wondering about the mountains that covered her Earth. He'd never been there before, but he'd heard plenty of stories from Scotty during their time on Delta Vega. He'd have to remember to see if the engineer would take him to the mountains whenever their mission was over.

'Rock everywhere.' His planet was something he didn't talk about much, not used to people being interested in it enough to ask about it. Continuing up the cliff he finally reached the top, pulling himself over, before turning back to help Gaila up after him. 'Taller then this.'

"Rocks everywhere, huh?" she commented, panting a little bit as the unexpected physical exercise started catching up on her. Climbing was a lot of work! Even though the cliffs on this beach weren't that tall, it was still work she hadn't expected to be doing today. But it was fun! And Keenser was so quick, manouvering up the rocky wall as if it was nothing, even though he was restraining himself for her sake.

She held onto his hand gently, crawling up on the top of the cliffside with laboured breathing. Her dress was a little dusty, and her knees and hands were filthy, but she didn't care, smiling at the alien officer as she rested on her knees. "Your planet sounds beautiful. Is your family still there?" she asked as she rose to her feet, dusting herself off before taking a moment to look out over the horizon. "Wow... The view is gorgeous from up here... Do you have views like this on your planet? I don't think I've seen anything like this on Orion," she mused, half to herself. Risa was gorgeous. This made her want to go climbing more, to explore the tropical forests littered in the country. Maybe she could bring Keenser with her? Exploring the caves or climbing the mountains?

Watching her move around, double-checking to make sure there weren't any loose rocks for her slip on, he sat back on his hands, legs stretched out before him. Climbing always seemed to put him in a better mood, and after everything that had happened in the past few weeks, he figured he deserved a little reprieve from everything. Glancing up at her questions his brow furrowed, wondering yet again what was so interesting about his world, and life, for someone to ask about it before looking back out to the horizon.

'Family gone. No one but me.' Shrugging he pulled himself closer to the edge of the cliff, swinging his legs out over the edge and letting them dangle. It was always the thrill of being so high up, and at any moment possibly falling to the earth that made it fun to climb. He'd never been able to find anything else quite like it in the entire universe, and he'd probably continue to do it as long as he was able, and probably after that. 'Have views. Rock instead.' Deserts and rock formations were extensive on his planet, making images like the ocean stretched out to the horizon an interesting sight. Not something he'd ever want to venture in, or consider all that beautiful, but it was something different.

Gaila sat down next to him as he found himself a seat on the edge of the cliff, making sure she was sitting safely before letting her legs dangle off the edge, feeling the soft wind against her skin as the ocean brought it in towards the shore. As Keenser told her about his family, she paused and frowned softly, her eyes gazing sympathetically at him. Oh no, why'd she asked..?

"Keenser, I'm so sorry," she said softly, kicking herself mentally for even bringing it up. It was a sensitive subject to anyone! She would've felt uncomfortable if a stranger asked her about her family! Well, she would've felt uncomfortable if a friend asked her about her family, but still. She didn't really know what to say after that, letting the silence bridge them as she looked out over the horizon. It was even more beautiful than on Earth.
