[ Whatever one can see of the suite Gaius is in is predictably beautiful, as is the case for many that took advantage of the whole limitless funds thing. He looks like he hasn't sleeping, or has been drinking, or some other combination that makes for a considerably rumpled computer programmer. Anyone who has seen him, and will see him, will note he ( Read more... )

[Capa had already been to The Cité on his trip, but he had been more interested in the company he had, which included his inmate, that he didn't mind going back a second time. Even if this life in this city was starting to wear on him.

So when he received the message, he accepted it quickly, and made his way through the city to meet up with him.]

You seem to have adjusted well.

What in the world gives you that impression?

[ At least Gaius is being somewhat facetious when he says this, a hooked half-grin in accompaniment. He is also holding what appears to be a rather large cup of coffee and peering through the tinted glass of sunglasses, ignoring also the tour group trundling by like busy traffic. ]

It's a little bit terrible, isn't it.

[Capa raised one shoulder in a half hearted shrug.] I expected a shambling mess, to be perfectly honest. [He had managed to escape without a hangover, though he knew he probably had one too many at the club with Arthur the night before. It was the only way that Capa could cope with jazz. However, he did eye that coffee with a particularly envious look.]

But if you are, you hide it well.

[ Gaius doesn't miss the glance to coffee, happily sloshing his around before taking a long and needed pull from it, before tilting his head-- gently-- in a given direction. ] Long years of practice, rest assured.

Come on, let's get you one've these and you can help me get my bearings.

I don't usually need caffeine. Two years and more without it. [But he reconsidered after he said it.] But...I think this is a situation where I need it.

This place isn't difficult to navigate. It's behind my time, so it's more entertainment than anything.

[ Off towards coffee it is, which is a science in itself, to make a good cup of coffee. The machine hisses in greeting with the two vendors in T-shirts signifying the museum moving to keep up with demand, although it isn't long until hey can serve and produce.

In the meantime, Gaius shall enjoy his own. ]

So this isn't contemporary Earth for you? By my understanding, it's a little ahead of most, here. Not everyone's, mind.

[Capa stood in line, flinching a bit at the loud sounds that hadn't seemed so offensive from a distance.] Not by much, but yes. 2057 is when we left. It was 2059 by the time we arrived. The others kept better count of the days. [His headache made him grow slightly impatient, but coffee would help. Hopefully. After a bit of badly spoken French on his part, he had his own.] So...almost forty years.

But a different timestream, of course.

Of course. Naturally. A lot of that going around.

[ That's way more French than Gaius has mastered, the accent too foreign for him to do more than point at pages in his translator book and do elaborate mimes. Getting coffee hadn't been too big of an ordeal, at least, falling into step with Capa as they moved on. ] My Warden and her-- son-- who's on the Barge, by the way-- is all tangled up in timeline nonsense, and it hasn't even anything to do with the Barge.

It's a bit of a mindfrak.

[That got a laugh out of Capa, but he didn't say anything until his hands were warming from the coffee he held.]

It's difficult to think about, but if you add in the "twin" concept, it becomes even more tangled. Especially when they're not even here.

I'm almost glad, sometimes, there isn't anyone from where I come from. Can't say that they wouldn't come from before or after.

[ Sips coffee, pauses. Twin concept. Oh-- ]

This is where I do you a great discourtesy in merely guessing that Dr. Crane isn't actually related to you.

Same here. I don't want to deal with that headache. And no. Crane is in no way related to me, though he likes to think differently sometimes.

[Capa started forward slowly, not really heading in any particular direction.]
