[Jesse, for whatever reason, is in a bathroom. Also smoking, naturally, sitting on the floor, using the toilet as an ashtray. He also looks tired, but less stressed than he has lately.]

I dunno about the death tolls, but I'm still seeing shit, for whatever that's worth. The faceless dudes.

[ Gaius remains in the general area of his shared suite with Sarah Connor - which is, incidentally, why he's keeping his voice down. ]

I was wondering. And I'm still dreaming as I was. Suppose I should be glad it doesn't happen when I'm awake.

[ His gratitude is-- invisible to the human eye, if he has any. ]

[Jesse's also being pretty quiet, but it's late, and he looks sleepy, so it's not all that out of the ordinary.]

Yeah, no kidding. [He sighs, dragging deep.] Anyways, that offer of mine still stands, if you want it. I scored some grass the other night, too. That might help.

[ Glances off somewhere in mild discomfort when The Offer is brought up again, but offers a quick smile at the video. He, too, is tired. That's what he gets for dialing into the network at this hour, however. ]

Paris isn't so terrible, when I'm not attempting to sleep. It's a nice distraction.

But I'll let you know once we're back on the good ship.

[Jesse snorts quietly.] Yeah. No guarantees about that, man. I like it here.

I get the feeling it isn't so simple as that, Jesse.

[He shoots the screen a look, like: duh.] Yeah, I get that. But I'm still gonna see if there's some way we can squat here. A girl got left behind at the last port, right? Why not this one?

Perhaps so.

But there's talk going around about how we got here - some people just opened a door on the Barge and stepped into Paris. Parker thinks it won't be any different for getting back on it. And you'll need doors eventually.

That's what happened last time, too... but not for everybody.

Look, man, it's something. You wanna tell me your ass wouldn't rather stay here in civilization?

Well, of course. I'm just not very good at crippling disappointment so I'm making an effort to avoid it at all costs.

It's almost exactly like home, too, this place. Minus lack of space travel.

Plus French. I could learn French. [Unlikely.]

Or, hell, if we can stay here, we can go anywhere. England, Canada, back to the States... [He leans his head back, his voice sort of dreamy.] Santa Fe, maybe... I got good memories of that place...

[ Rests chin on hand and quietly smokes as Jesse talks, disinclined to interrupt with more reality and what have you. He's a decent measure older than the other man and should at least sometimes try to act it. ]

Manage to fit a lot all on one planet, don't you?

...Hmm? [Jesse's on the other side of the ocean, man. He's in Santa Fe. But then he shoots a glance offscreen, looking suddenly sort of guilty.]

Uh, do we? So that sci-fi stuff is true, huh, like alien planets aren't so, you know, multi-cultural?

[ Gaius is indeed still here, a small, almost nonexistent smile edging at the corner of his mouth. Too tired to be offended or amused any further than that. ]

I don't quite follow.

We've cultures, of course, religions and status and-- just an immense population under a single governmental body. Whole planets develop their own walks of life as opposed to continents, though it isn't entirely uniform. But it seems you have it all on this one-- quite small, even, planet, and then some.

[Jesse flashes a tired smile of his own, his voice going quieter again.]

Forget continents, man. We've got it in, like, cities... towns, even. Neighborhoods. Like... back in the ABQ, there's places you don't go, you get me? [Even though he's talking about racism and gang violence, he feels an odd stab of pride for the earth. Go, Earth! Diversity!]
