For all you night owls, this is the night! First time in several years this annual event will be happening on a prime, clear night. So go view the Geminoid (spelling) meteor shower! It starts in the East at around 9:00 pm moving west until about 2 am, For those of you who know your constillations, look to the heads of Gemini. For those that have a vague idea, find Orion's Belt (those three bright lights close together) and look to the left! And for those that go...ho hum another shower! Well this December show is special for a couple of reasons. 1) more for the buck! This belt of dust that the earth passes though will provide an average of 2 "sparks" a minute at it's peak! 9pm -2am. and 2) this is more than just a meteor shower, it is beleived this is the debrie from an asteroid. So instead of dust and gas, it is believed to have rock in it's composition. Which to us, manifests in blues and greens! and 3) This is the first time in about 4 years when the middle TN area has had perfectly clear skys on the peak night of this event! I am off to find a dark field somewhere....now where should I go?.........
