It might have been in another country. The last week has been a complete whirlwind of flying by the seat of my pants and international travel. Florence was a really good time, we did lots of touristy things like seeing the cathedral and the David and shopped a whole ton. We reunited with some of our friends the first night and it was really good to see other people we know and spend time with them.
After staying an extra day in Florence to see and shop some more we were going to go to Greece but found that getting there last minute was not exactly easy and more travel time than we wanted to spend. So quick change of plans that took a whole day of stress and we decided to go to Nice instead. Right in the middle of simultaneous rail strikes in the two countries we were trying to go between. Awesome. Turns out the train from Florence to Nice was one of the only ones not cancelled in the whole country of Italy that day, but because of the strike in France the train would only take us to the border. From there we and about 50 other travelers had to charter a bus to take us to Nice. It was insane and very tiring. Since I didn’t really sleep on the night train I’ve been trying to make up for it by relaxing here in Nice.
Our first night we stayed in an alright hostel but didn’t have anywhere to stay for the next few nights. Luckily this area is literally stocked with hotels so we didn’t have to walk far before we found one with a real hotel room with a real bed and a real shower and a real TV that’s all our own for about as much as we were paying to share a room with total strangers. Oh and those strangers and the wireless internet at the other hostell? I can still pick up both through the window of this hotel. We are moving to another hostel tomorrow though to reconnect with people our age.
Hopefully we’ll be able to make it out of the country and go to Spain in the next few days since I promised Kristen we’d go somewhere where she understands the language. Right now it feels good just to be on vacation and have a real Sunday afternoon. Kristen has been sleeping all day though, maybe I’ll have to wake her up.
Other than that not much is going on, besides my continuing disbelief that I am going home so soon. I thought my Eurotrip was going to last forever but I am quickly running out of days. Sorry I haven’t been keeping up on the journal but anytime I can I’ll try and write something. I think I have some photos to update as well.
Au revoir for now!
