Mandy and I just successfully got a bat out of the apartment. Welcome to Sicily.
Most of today was spent at the Catania airport, where there was a slight mishap with Mandy’s bags, though all was resolved in the end. We did however miss the 15:40 bus and had to wait for the 18:40 since it was Sunday and there’s only one bus that goes back and forth. We had a good catch-up though and ate a first Italian panino (turkey, salami, provolone, tomatoes, salt, oil, oregano) and got the bus back to Siracusa. We went out for dinner (more panini and bruschette) and now we’re doing more dish and bitch in our respective bunk beds.
This weekend we were inundated by other Americans who are here on summer month programs at MCAS. About seventy of them, and ninety percent girls. Cool. The dynamic has definitely changed with our boys, who feel like they’ve been given a gift from God, who we already decided loves this country. We feel like our boys shouldn’t forget who they were friends with first.
Tomorrow the plan is to get to the open market and the beach before class starts. Good days ahead!
