Lyric Corner: Bold Aliens

Nov 14, 2004 14:28

This is a very old song I wrote way back in 1990. Today I found it while digging out stuff from a bookcase that needs to be moved when the addition to my house is closed in on the upper floor.

Without further ado, here's a filk of a tune I heard on Alan Mill's two volume vinyl set, Animal Songs:Bold Aliens
Words © 1990 by David J. Alway; TTTO "Bold Reynard the Fox" on Alan Mills' Animal Songs albums.

There was a U-F-Ologist went out to hunt his prey,
He thought he saw the aliens - mowin' down oats and hay!
Chorus:
With a hoot-toot-toot zing hi-lo, we'll foil the alien's plan,
With a rat-tat-tat zing piti-piti-pat, hold stunner by
And an ow-ow-ow, and a ding-dong-dang!
And away to the hills we'll run, brave boys - and away to the hills we'll hie!

He put it to a milk-man, a-workin' at his still:
He claimed he saw a Tripod, walkin' on yonder hill!
Chorus

He drove up to a spacer, a sittin' at her rest.
She swore at him: the alien - would rip out of his chest!
Chorus

He came upon an android, near blind with but one eye:
It pointed to a saucer-cloud, flyin' in yonder sky!
Chorus

There never was an alien, about, upon that day
'Twere just some lonely mermaids, singin' in the ocean spray!
Final Chorus:
With a hoot-toot-toot zing hi-lo, we'll leave the alien clan,
With a rat-tat-tat zing piti-piti-pat, hold stunner low,
And a wow-wow-wow! And a ding-dong-dang!
And away to the sea we'll run, brave boys - and away to the sea we'll go!

- Dave Alway, 13 October 1990
