Raging seas have we rowed in But we seldom saw them thus, Our master is angry with Odin and Odin is angry with us! - Rudyard Kipling
September 25th - We departed Amsterdam at dawn and headed out into the North Sea. It was rough to say the least. Of course the stabilizers kept the rolling down to a reasonable level, but they could do nothing for the pitch and yaw as the ship took on the big rollers in the North Sea. Safety lines had been rigged to help passengers navigate areas like the bar and the reception area. The dining rooms were suspiciously empty of the usual number of hungry passengers. Fortunately both Brock and I are pretty good sailors and didn't have any issues with seasickness.
This is what the North Sea looks like when it is moderately annoyed.
Since we would be spending the entire day at sea it was a good time for relaxing either in our cabin.
Or in the spacious Lounge.
I opted to spend much of the day in the Lounge reading, doing some embroidery, and listening to talks by some of the Expedition staff about the European Union, the effects of weather on the D-Day landings, and some photography sessions.
As the afternoon wore on we entered the English Channel and the seas became much calmer. Just before dinner as the light was fading we came abreast of Dover and could just make out the famous white cliffs, the Seven Sisters, off our starboard side.
We enjoyed a good dinner and then off to bed to prepare for our arrival in Caen tomorrow.
