During my recent trip to Cyprus I managed to spend some time at the beach with Pelagia and the Black Monk by  Boris Akunin. Like everything by Akunin, this book was perfect reading for a short vacation.

Pelagia is a young nun who solves mysteries and in the process has lots of interesting adventures and misadventures. One of the latter involved a nasty bruise on the face, which lead to chapter titles like 'Purple','Green' and 'Yellow', corresponding to the colour of the bruise on each successive day.

I broke my toe a week ago and this far every day has been purple and painful. Today we had summer weather in Edinburgh and I would have loved to be outdoors, climbing Arthur's Seat or joining the group hike in Roslin Glen. Instead I had to contend myself with a tour of the Rosslyn Chapel (well worth the visit despite the crowds, by the way). I admired the intricate stone masonry and the even more intricate scaffolding covering the exterior of the chapel, as well as the humour of the farmer next door. By early afternoon the 'Da Vinci' horse manure had sold out.
