RE: Our 12th night dinner

All:

You'll remember a little further back in my LJ that I had a medieval themed feast (normally held the first weekend after New Years Day). Last night, my wife and I had five guests show up. All in all, a fun evening was had. We'd had the following items to eat:

Sur le Table:
Various breads and cheeses with garlic herb butter or honey butter

(We'd used a Parmesan and garlic cream cheese spread--we opted against the honey-butter after all)

First Remove:
Garden salad with choice of dressings

(we opted out of the garden salad and went on to the next course)

Second Remove:
Bavarian Beef Soup with Mushrooms

(we planned to make bread bowls for the soup--then the oven died--we improvised)

Third Remove:
Grilled Salmon with Spicy Mustard Sauce
Long Grain and Wild Rice

(we'd added steamed vegetables--squash, red and yellow peppers, broccoli and cauliflower, served with olive oil and basil---along with the salmon and rice, this was very well received)

Fourth Remove:
Roast Cornish Game Hens
Seasoned Breaded Stuffing

(I panicked and made too many hens. The stuffing also had celery, almonds, walnuts and fresh apricots)

Fifth Remove:
Roast Pork Tenderloin Seasoned with Poudre Forte
Spiced and Stewed Apples

(another course that was well received. This turned out very moist after cooking in the rotisserie)

Dessert:
Dark Chocolate Mousse with Slivered Almonds

(my wife also made Milk Chocolate Mousse to go with it, plus Dream-Whip topping mixed with Chambord. As flameelf doesn't like chocolate, we'd also provided Pistachio and French Vanilla Mousse for her and others)

Drinks:
White or Red Wine, (Served with Dinner)
Chaucer's Mead
GlenGarioch Highland Scotch Whiskey
Chambord Liqeur

(we'd ended up serving Camelot Mead instead--current recipe is more like a sweet white wine)

After dining, everyone sat around, drinking coffee, various wines, mead, liquers and whatnot, while enjoying one another's company. Conversation flowed freely and there was a lot of laughter--as all good parties should have. The last of our guests left around 1:30 this morning. The one thing I regret is not taking pictures.

I only know one local LJ user (that would be flameelf) and invited her. She had a good time (although she said she ate way too much). The only bad thing is that I once again overestimated on the amount of food required. My wife and I will be eating roasted pork tenderloin, game hens, Bavarian beef stew and other delicacies for the rest of the week...not that this is a bad thing, mind!

And with this, I bid goodbye to Christmas....until next year.

Cheers, one and all,

T-Bob
