I Understand The Cats

Feb 24, 2009 10:48

It occured to me today as the cats milled around between my feet as I was preparing breakfast that my worry about our bank account is not altogether unlike the way the cats fret about their food bowls when the level of food gets below a certain amount. They always try to leave a little food in the bowl for fear of it running out completely. I used to interpret that as their not being hungry and so I would not refill their bowls until they were empty. Now I know better.

They will always try to leave some food in the bowl until they truly are so hungry they can’t leave the bowl unlicked. But before they get to that point, they are incessant about reminding me that they need more food. It can be a little irritating, but now that I realize their behaviour is no different than mine as I check my bank balances daily, sometimes multiple times per day, I am more sympathetic to their concerns and make sure there is always sufficient food in their bowls to keep them happy and unconcerned about starving.

I wish it were that easy with our bank accounts!
