A Busy Weekend

It has been a busy week. We had friends, Mark and Robert, out to visit on Friday. They arrived by train as Robbie’s guests. The original plan was for them to spend the night. Bob and David from here in Woodstock would join us for dinner, which they did. Then Saturday afternoon Mark, Robert, Robbie and I were to drive into Toronto to attend a party at Bruce’s place on the east side of the city.

The weather had other plans. One of the largest snow storms in years hit Saturday about noon, and we decided that discretion was the better part of valour and put Mark and Robert back on a train than evening for Toronto. It was unfortunate, but I didn’t want to drive on that crazy 401 in a blizzard.

So we spent a pleasant Sunday by ourselves, shoveling snow, putting up the Christmas tree and generally hanging out. It was quite nice, actually. Here are some pictures of our fun weekend with our friends.

Weekend Pics!

Sunday morning I finished reading “The Life of Rome’s First Emperor, Augustus” by Anthony Everitt. It seemed like a good balance to having read Tab Hunter’s autobiography. I enjoyed reading about Augustus very much. I love the history of the ancient world, Greece and Rome especially. How Augustus gained and held on to power for such a long time and so successfully has always interested me, and I learned a great deal about how that all happened in this book.

Next, something lighter, a fiction, I think!
