Le sigh -- Batman and Robin

Oct 16, 2011 12:52

So...I never really write Robin, or the batfamily, really, other than Alfred. I just have no reading background in the Batman comics and don't know enough about all the ancillary characters to make the notion of a bunch of kids running around fighting dangerous criminals under the auspices of an obsessive-compulsive make enough sense for me to want ( Read more... )

This is SO my thing! I was THRILLED to see your prospective stories involving my favorite Robin! :)

Okay, Summary 1: Dick is a highly intelligent young man who is a fine detective in his own right. He uses the methods taught to him by Bruce and often uses intuition, because Dick connects with people and emotions far better than Bruce does. That's why he was the leader of the Titans as a teenager and continues to lead and attract heroes to him (and also for other aesthetic reasons, LOL!).

He would observe Lois for awhile and then probably arrange to meet her 'by accident' and charm her into a friendship. He would be bright and charming and fun to hang out with while employing Bat-methods to get the information he wants. He would also genuinely like her. Dick is that rare person who is gorgeous and can get anyone he wants as a friend or lover but is not a user.

Hmm, not sure if he is friends with Bart in canon, but I wouldn't be surprised if he does. Dick is friends with nearly EVERYONE in the DCU. He is like that Kevin Bacon thing, LOL, where you can connect him with the Bat-Family, then the Supers through Clark, then the Titans and then the Wonders through Donna and the Arrows through Roy... ;)

Summary 2: Clark/Dick is the Sunshine Couple of Slash! ;) He has been a fanboy ever since their first meeting and they immediately connected due to similar personalities and their love of flying. Bruce flies because it gets him from Point A to Point B while Clark and Dick fly for the sheer joy of it.

Dick's campaign to win Clark's heart would be to connect with him with their optimistic outlook on life, and also understand the darker side: Clark lost his parents and entire world and Dick lost his parents (and was there to see it happen) and symbolically, his entire world. The bond that connects him to Bruce in that way can also work with Clark, and their love of justice and genuine enjoyment of people.

Also, for lighthearted detail, they both love gaudy, bright colors as evidenced by Clark's costume and Dick's first costume. And as we've seen by his Nightwing days, Dick loves feathers and probably is enamored of sequins and glittery things! ;) So he would be able to bond with Clark on similar outlooks on fashion and their approach to crimefighting. They also love to laugh, and Dick could ingratiate himself with Clark by being fun to be around and Clark wouldn't have to walk on eggshells around him. Also, just like Clark, once Dick loves, it's with all he has. He doesn't hold back.

I don't know if this helps, but it was fun to write! ;)

If you have any questions I'll do my best to answer them since I have a Ph.D. in Dick Grayson. ;)

OMG, you're so wonderful!

Do you think that Robin at age...say 10, would be savvy enough to abscond to Metropolis? I would think that coming from a circus background, he'd be particularly adventurous and not scared to travel.

What age did he officially become Robin in most incarnations? Did they wait until his teen years? Sometimes, he looks really young.

Who are Dick's ordinary love interests? From back in the days of the Batman show, I wanted to hook him up with Barbara. Are they a popular couple? I see him hooked up a lot with Roy. Is that his most prevalent slash pairing (other than with Batman)?

I see Tim always hooked up with Connor. Why not Dick?

I didn't realize Clark and Dick had so much in common! This might be a heck of a lot of fun for me to write because I can parallel the commonality between Clark and Dick against the polar opposite of Clark and Bruce. Does like to like pull more, or is it really that opposites attract... :))

*hugs* You rock! Thank you!

*grins and bows*

Dick at age 10 could TOTALLY make his way to Metropolis. You're right about him not scared to travel with his circus background and he's a wanderer. His love for Bruce and Alfred (and the rest of the Bat-Family later on) keep him anchored to Gotham, though we have seen him make his own way in Bludhaven and New York.

In the Golden Age, I'm pretty sure his parents were killed when he was 8, and after training, he debuted at around age 9 (could be 10). Later DC aged him to around 12, I believe. He was pretty young no matter which age. He's precocious, very smart and very eager to please Bruce. He responds well to praise.

He DOES have flaws, that perfect boy! ;) One is that he can be needy and Bruce sometimes can't quite give him what he needs (like he can't quite give Clark what he needs, to be honest).

Dick can also use his natural sunshine to mask problems: worries or depression, for example. Just giving you a little balance! ;)

Dick and Barbara are a popular couple. I prefer them as friends (I think they work better that way) but it's canon that they've been in an off-and-on-again romance, even close to coming married at one point. When Batgirl first arrived on the scene, she was older than Dick (don't know if that works in the DcNu) and he had a teenage crush on her. :)

He dated Lori in college, but I think his college years have been retconned out. He had a serious romance with Kori (Starfire) during Perez/Wolfman's run on the Teen Titans, and nearly got married to her.

Roy is the most common slash choice for Dick after Bruce. They've been friends since the Titans days and have been shown in canon to go through a lot for each other, and to just hang out. Dick went with Roy to get Lian when Roy learned that he had a daughter. Cheshire was willing to give her up. There are some domestic moments with Dick, Roy, and Lian in canon. :)

Clark/Dick is not as common but people have written about them. :)

Aside from pairing Dick with Clark or Bruce, it's the joke that in canon and fanon he's got a thing for redheads (Barbara, Kory, and Roy). ;)

I think Tim is hooked up with Connor more often because a lot of people grew up with Tim as Robin, not Dick, and Tim is very popular. Other than that, I don't know.

Clark and Dick are usually my default for a fluffy pairing! ;)

They have a lot of history together, because in the Golden Age the World's Finest comic featured not just Superman and Batman but Robin as well, and they had many adventures together. So it's canon that they've had a friendship for years.

*hugs*

You're welcome! :)

Ooh! Canon fact: Dick went to Clark after he had the fight with Bruce in which Bruce 'fired' him after he'd been shot by the Joker and Bruce took the Robin identity away from him (which rankles Dick fans because Robin was partly from Dick's circus background). He was hurt and adrift and Clark told him about Nightwing and Flamebird, Krypton's greatest heroes, and Dick took the name Nightwing for his new superhero persona.

*lovely sigh* ;)
