Random Thoughts...

I fail at keeping up with comments lately. Guess I could blame it on the fact that I had jury duty this week but, really, it's a bit of laziness on my part and the fact that I have a couple of huge, behind-the-scenes projects going on that require extensive non-LJ correspondence. I'll try to get caught up...soon.

Hmm. Dried mango slices are...delicious. Like a rush of sugar to the blood. :))

I've signed up for the sv_renaissance WIP Challenge with a promise to finish my CLex fic The Sky for an Enemy by November 21st...

...

Yeah.

So, my writing schedule (what I can claim of one) looks like:

October -- Finishing Double Helix (Clark/Ollie)
November -- Writing Hookerino (Clark/Bruce) for NaNoWriMo and finishing A Sky for an Enemy (Clark/Lex)
December -- Completing my birthday request ficlets and the 2 S/B stories for my sooper seekrit project.

In between this stuff, I'm going to try to complete some work on the following stories: The Aleph, Heart of Stone, and No Man's Fool.

I think that covers all the bases for the fic poll I posted a few weeks ago. I'm not picking up anything new--even though a number of holiday exchanges look mighty tempting. I think my plate is somewhat overfilled. LOL (And this is not to mention that I am eagerly awaiting the release of Mass Effect, the new RPG from Bioware that will likely consume a huge chunk of my time starting in late November...)

Just a reminder: I have a ficlet request thread posted HERE. If you'd like me to write you something for my birthday in December, that's the place to make your request. I'll likely close the thread at the end of October, so...do your thing if you haven't already.

I haven't been reading everything Superman/Batman the way I used to. I sort of just stick to the things that catch my eye and that are my particular cup of tea. But I wanted to shout out a couple of things that I've been eagerly following that are Smallville related, just in case anyone missed these:

arianstarr is consistently updating Consume Me, a Clark/Bruce prequel to her excellent story If Tomorrow Never Comes. The story features that deliciously slow type of development that reads like a novel. Clark and Bruce actually meet for the first time at the end of chapter eight, LOL. That's some story development for your ass. ;) I'm loving it, and am dying for the next part. Read "Tomorrow" first, then when you're dying to know the genesis of the Clark/Bruce relationship in that story, start reading "Consume Me". It's really wonderfully done and meaty.

romanyg just wrote The Edges Finely Shaped and Honed , which is Bruce/Lex, Bruce/Clark, Lex/Clark. Romany hails from the Smallville CLex world, but she has a great comics grounding and is slowly moving towards a Bruce/Clark OTP (I can tell!). I really enjoyed this story for the deft characterizations and dialogue. I always enjoy Romany's characterization theories. There's so much history and thought behind the relationships.

I don't think you have to have seen Smallville to enjoy a Smallville-based Clark/Bruce. There is really only a finite list of things you *have* to know that are Smallville-specific to enjoy a SV/DCU mash-up:

1. Clark and Lex were friends when Clark was in high school in Smallville and they had a falling out.

2. The Lana character has an expanded role, with Clark and with Lex, dating both.

3. There's an OC named Chloe who is basically Clark's only friend.

4. Jonathan Kent dies when Clark is in high school.

5. Martha Kent is a state senator, and now a US senator.

6. Lex's father's name is Lionel. He's still alive and has an expanded role in the Smallville-verse. Sometimes he's evil, and sometimes he's...not quite so evil.

7. Jor-El and the whole Kryptonian heritage thing is a strange muddle where sometimes Jor-El has been malevolent and has exhibited weird, unexplained powers to do things from beyond the grave.

8. Martian Manhunter has some sort of strange Smallville-retcon history that has him as a Martian who has been to Krypton and knew Jor-El, and is now the instrument of Jor-El's plans for Clark...somehow...

As far as I can tell, pretty much anything else has some comics-basis or can be understood (or accepted with a grain of salt) in relation to the above facts.

BTW, can anyone explain to me exactly what the power is of the girl on Heroes who makes people bleed black ink out of their eyes?

There are the shows that I'm posting to my journal these days:

Heroes
Smallville
Friday Night Lights
The Batman
Legion of Super Heroes
Supernatural

If anyone has ever asked me for anything else and I've forgotten about it, please let me know.
