LOOKS LIKE IT'S GOING TO BE A BRILLIANT STORYasm613August 6 2007, 23:30:35 UTC
Great beginning of a new story. definitely makes me want to continue reading (but really wishes it was complete so i could read the whole thing now). i have always enjoyed your stories though, so no big surprise. i'm glad bruce & clark continue to live long and happy lives into the far future. wonder why the legion would assist in letting them outlive their natural lifespan by so much- thought they were pretty adamant about not using time travel to change natural outcomes in time line. ripple affects, paradoxes, unknown consequences.. When you wrote that clark & bruce now looked so similar & bruce always sunning & how all the kids looked like their parents- thought maybe clark enhanced bruce with kryptonian dna (thus his love/need for sun and long life). their children could have been made like superboy (combining clark's & bruce's dna & growing children in artifical/kryptonian tech wombs)- which would also let children live longer w/o aging after maturing to healthy, young adult age. i'm pretty sure they wouldn't want their children to get older than them & die b4 them.
loved the talk/advice/banter between 2 parents & the 2 parents with son. i'd like to think the children were theirs biologically. since it's AU & altered time line; you can create new characters as opposed to doing what everybody else does- using tim, dick, roy...
>>He tuned the rest of the conversation out, feeling incredibly guilty for the accidental confidence he had breeched,... now that he knew something he had suspected-that this retirement was too easy, and there was something weird about his parents lounging about in any case-he had to ferret out the whole truth. They've had interaction with the Legion, and have been time traveling, and even these small pieces of information explained a lot. And the talk of choices-well,... Choices, potential disappearances-an investigation was in order. This time, he'd unearth the whole story. His parents had a habit of secrecy, of revealing only the necessary bits, of parceling out history, especially personal history, on a need to know basis. But if they were preparing for a true shift to the younger generation, where either of them could become unavailable for a long period of time, he needed to make his own plans, develop his own sources of information about family matters current and historical.<< If the above is true & he needed to find out the truth- why did he tune out the rest of the conversation? Had already started eavesdropping anyway. doing his own investigation would take a lot of time. still may not find answers. secretly investigating parents who would probably discover his investigations-they are superman & batman; & stop him. Or they've already covered their tracks and/or placed false evidence to be discovered to cover up whatever it is they're hiding. He had already broken their no eavesdropping rule; so it doesn't quite make sense that he wouldn't continue- since he is so obviously intent on discovering the truths.you also wrote that he was so used to listening to his parents that their voices were the soundtrack to his life. Also- the biggest reason to make children original characters is the fact that you wrote that he and his siblings all have enhanced hearing. A kryptonian dna gift. So the children couldn't be tim, dick, roy, cassie...They'd need to be biological children.
>>"You shouldn't have time for dates."
"Like you never went out once in thirty years."
"Only for show, to maintain my image-"
"That's not what dad says-"
"Your father lies. They think he doesn't but he does-like a rug."<< This was GREAT. Even better was:
>> son. Don't mind him. Every free moment he was chasing me around, trying to get me to go out with him. For three whole months he followed me around like a puppy. Don't let him tell you any different<<
I absolutely love the way you write. the unique and individual voices you give your characters- are so believable, entertaining and enjoyable. Thanks again for taking the time to write and share another (sure to be) wonderful story.

>>Great beginning of a new story. definitely makes me want to continue reading (but really wishes it was complete so i could read the whole thing now).
I wish it were complete too! LOL
>>i'm glad bruce & clark continue to live long and happy lives into the far future.
I always do plan for a happy ending, though it may take a long time to get there. ;)
>> wonder why the legion would assist in letting them outlive their natural lifespan by so much- thought they were pretty adamant about not using time travel to change natural outcomes in time line.
I don't believe I implied that the Legion *allowed* Bruce and Clark to do anything, just that they are involved.
>>When you wrote that clark & bruce now looked so similar & bruce always sunning & how all the kids looked like their parents- thought maybe clark enhanced bruce with kryptonian dna
Well, this is a continuation of Pas de Deux, and the question has to be asked how the Fortress was able to Bring Bruce back to life in the first place. Plus, there are a lot of unanswered questions about the Kryptonian symbols on Bruce's arm, etc. If you've read the other stories in this arc, it's pretty clear that this is the most likely scenario.
>>their children could have been made like superboy (combining clark's & bruce's dna & growing children in artifical/kryptonian tech wombs)
Well, I can guarantee there will be no MPREG in this story, so this is really one of the only viable choices.
>>i'm pretty sure they wouldn't want their children to get older than them & die b4 them.
You're sure about that? LOL I can tell you how my Clark/Bruce dynamic would work out in this arc: The guys would have no problem if their kids live healthy, happy lives of a natural span. They would be fine outliving them, provided the two of them were together.
>>i'd like to think the children were theirs biologically. since it's AU & altered time line;
They are.
>>you can create new characters as opposed to doing what everybody else does- using tim, dick, roy...
I might use the other Bat characters, somehow, but I'm not sure if/how yet. Even if I do involve them, there will be a distinction between the proteges that are like family and the actual kids that were born to Clark and Bruce. For instance, if I involve Dick, I'll make him like an uncle to the kids, rather than a brother.

Continued--
>>If the above is true & he needed to find out the truth- why did he tune out the rest of the conversation?
Respect. Ethics. The fact that he gave his word not to spy on his parents, which for a family of super powered beings, is important -- to learn not to abuse your powers to the detriment of others. Once he learns what is going on, he'll want to confront his parents, and he'll get much more respect from them if he uses available channels to build a case and doesn't do something he told them he wouldn't.
Plus, the conversation itself suffers from two problems: 1) it's a truncated mentioning between two people who already know the details, hence it's unlikely he'll get the type of complete picture he'd need; 2) and the account is naturally biased, being that the source is the people he wants to investigate.
Hope this answers your concerns!
>>so it doesn't quite make sense that he wouldn't continue- since he is so obviously intent on discovering the truths.
I think you missed the point of the scene. The kid wants to know not just the details of the current situation. He wants to know the whole story of his parents, the historical facts that have always been glossed over and vague because the source of the accounts and explanations were two people who didn't think the kids needed to know everything. The kid in this scene is worried that his parents are going to disappear, and he'll never know how his parents came to be so connected, how they met, what all the family secrets are. It's not *just* the current suspicion that his parents are involved in something complex that they didn't bother explaining. It's *everything*.
>>you also wrote that he was so used to listening to his parents that their voices were the soundtrack to his life.
No, I wrote that their voices--their light banter--were the soundtrack of his life. Not that he regularly used his super hearing to spy on his parents.
>>Also- the biggest reason to make children original characters is the fact that you wrote that he and his siblings all have enhanced hearing. A kryptonian dna gift. So the children couldn't be tim, dick, roy, cassie...They'd need to be biological children.
Not necessarily. I can think of a dozen ways to turn this into the original Bat family, if I really wanted to. However, I don't. LOL It is much more interesting to me to go original.
Thanks so much for your wonderful comments! I'm glad this part seemed to excite you. :) Makes me want to jump forward and actually write this future story in contemporaneous time. :hugs:
