Computer person?

Is there anyone on my friends list who is conversant with remote server management?

I have a remote dedicated Red Hat Linux server that I've had for years. I've taught myself how to use it to the extent that I can set up websites, have about twenty people with space on the server, can use the Plesk control panel, mail -- basically everything on the user end of the spectrum.

What I don't know how to do is the terminal line management of the software on the server (say upgrading the version of php) or anything that requires knowledge of programming, such as figuring out how to get cgi forms to work properly. For instance, I know *how* something is supposed to work -- I need to put a cgi document in the cgi bin and the text in the document needs to point to the right path to perl etc. What I don't know how to do is troubleshoot if things don't work properly (and they never do).

Anyway, I've been meaning to teach myself the high end server management for a couple of years now. I have the books, and all I really need to do is find time to work through them. The trouble is, a lot of the books assume knowledge of other things, so it ends up being a time consuming learning curve -- and I haven't had the time to dedicate. It would be much easier if someone knowledgeable would, like, help me. LOL

In any event, if you're a computer person with these types of skills and can flub around my server, answering some of my questions, please holler.

Thanks!
