#219. Headlines

Rogue can't stand the newspapers but she reads them front to back every day, hopeful there will be some clue as to their whereabouts in the headlines, in the stories printed. Somewhere. There never is. Not even a hint as to where they're being held. No mention at all about what the government plans on doing with them. The editorial section is ripe with opinions, almost all declaring that a trial would be futile.

Death to Magneto.

That seems to be what the public wants, what they think will help keep the monsters away. Her head always ends up pounding when she reads that section, the various personas inside of her getting a little more power, a little stronger as they push forward, each of them vying for control. She keeps herself in check because of Rachel, because of Logan, because somehow she will find Erik and Toad and Avalanche. Somehow she will break the three of them out and then...

She can't think that far ahead. Focus needs to be on the immediate goal. She has blueprints and data and countless encrypted emails to sort through. All leads that have gotten her nowhere. Nothing but clues that lead down this never-ending rabbit hole to more clues.

The paper is open to the editorial section. Death or Trial for Magneto? seem to be what all the letters are about. She can't read those again and tosses the paper to the floor, needing a break.

If they kill him, Rogue doesn't doubt that she'd gladly watch this world burn and be just insane enough to be the cause of the fire.
