TM 204: Sometimes the appropriate response to reality is to go insane. (Philip K. Dick)

Nov 15, 2007 13:09

I was once fortunate enough to read a paper in which my entire psyche was analyzed for some graduate student's thesis in psychology. I can't remember how this came to be, exactly, other than I believe Toad was searching some database and came across the listing for Magneto: A Psychological Analysis of Delusions of Grandeur and Post-Traumatic Stress ( Read more... )

I read it. I've read quite a lot about you... and it doesn't get any less disturbing.

I wonder what your thesis would be about, Kelly?

I have a few suggestions.

If someone were to psychoanalyze me? I'm well aware of my faults. Stockholm syndrome, however, isn't one of them.

Are you sure about that?

Well, let's be grateful for that, then.

Are you upfront about your tendencies to want people locked up for being different? What syndrome might that be?

As I recall, Lehnsherr, you're the one who locked me up and gutted my friend because we were not mutants.

If I locked people up for being different I'd be locking up myself, my wife, my daughter, and most of my friends.

I want you locked up. I want people who are dangerous locked up. WITH a fair trial, not assaulted and abducted and held indefinitely.

Don't lecture to me about morals. At least I have some.

Yes, I did those things. Now, since I am not a sociopath, let us think why--oh, yes, I recall. You and your rhetoric about registration. What do you think is the next step, Senator? Once we are classified and given numbers, how long do you think it will take? I will gut any man, woman or child that I have to in order to stop it from happening again. If you think that makes me a monster, then so be it.

I have heard your particular brand of morals before, Senator. I am not interested in hearing them again.

Now, if you have rethought your particular stance on mutant registration and my people being--what was it, you said, an unregistered mutant was a the same as a weapon in a public school--dangerous, then perhaps we may have a more civil conversation without such drastic measures.

I'm a little reluctant to accept that you're not insane, but let's proceed from that shaky hypothesis.

Rhetoric. Yes. You murdered my friend because of rhetoric. Words, Lehnsherr. Free speech. Support of a bill that might never have passed. You ever think to use some words of your own? Or even manipulate the process like everyone else does - use some of your money and make campaign contributions. Anything but stopping Henry Gyrich from ever going home to his family again.

I'd do anything I could to stop a holocaust too. But I was not and am not advocating that. If anything, I'm trying to prevent one.

[locked]

And what did you think I would do, exactly, if you'd turned me into a mutant? Did you think I'd see it all your way?

Pretty words, Senator. How many mutants will never see their families again? How many mutants will suffer because you deem them dangerous and unworthy of living their lives without registering like some kind of criminal?

*locked*

I was using you to see if my machine worked, because I don't particularly care what happens to bigots who would see my people in camps.
