TM Prompt #335: By Heart

May 21, 2010 01:20

Write about something you know by heart.

78 images on stiff paper.

Zero through twenty-one. A sacred journey. Infinite potential brought to the earthly plane, birthed through Damp Mother Earth and challenged at every turn. Growing, learning, achieving unity. Back to zero once more. It is a wheel.

(There IS a Wheel. X. Jupiter.)

Here, is your card.

Ace through ten. Courts of pages, knights, queens and kings. A cruel woman, a dark stranger. Action. Dreaming.

Fear death by water.

78 images. Every last one committed to memory. Configurations of wands, cups, pentacles, swords.
One, two, three. The story changes if you move the ending. This is what happened. What is happening. What will happen. Maybe.

(There really is no Phoenician Sailor, for the record. The Hanged Man, though, yes. I see my brother in that man, suspended forever between worlds. I see the Tower. I see Strength. They are not my cards, no. But they are there, in my life.)

78.

I can close my eyes and summon them up.

They are etched in my heart.

(Three of swords.)
